Children's Conversations at the Lutheran Church of Honolulu

A children's conversation by Pastor Jeff Lilley If you cover your eyes, everything is dark; but when you uncover them, you can see light and colors. Many blind people learn to "see" in a different way through sound. In today's Gospel, Jesus is inviting us to learn to see in a new way, through the eyes of God's love.

A children's conversation by Pastor Jeff Lilley In today's Gospel, Nicodemus asks Jesus what he is doing, and Jesus gives him a great gift--the Bible verse John 3:16. If you think of the great gifts you have gotten, you probably wouldn't think of some words. But Nicodemus didn't know how to live his life, and Jesus explained the gift of God's love. This is the same gift that god gives you.

A children's conversation by Pastor Jeff Lilley Lots of people were scared by Friday's tsunami. In today's Gospel, Jesus was tempted by the devil, but he always remembered God's word and knew that God was with him. So he wasn't afraid of the devil. If we remember that God is always with us, we don't ever have to be afraid.

A children's conversation by Pastor Jeff Lilley Today is the Sunday of the Transfiguration, an uncommon word about changing one's being. It is also the last Sunday before Lent, a season when people give up things. One thing we will give up is the word "Alleluia" in worship. So I want you to help me hide this Alleluia until Easter.

A children's conversation by Pastor Jeff Lilley Sometimes we worry about things. I once ran out of gas, and my daughter worried for years that it would happen again. It took her a long time to stop worrying and trust me not to run out. In today's Gospel, Jesus tells us not to worry because God will be with us. We learn to trust that God loves us, and we don't have to worry.

A children's conversation by Pastor Jeff Lilley In today's Gospel, Jesus calls us to be perfect. We think perfect means not doing anything wrong, but Jesus really used a word that means finished. Even though you may sometimes make mistakes, you are perfect because you are finished products of God's love.

A children's conversation by Pastor Jeff Lilley Today is Faith and Arts Sunday, and you can see lots of art from members around the church. You can be an artist without faith, but art does help us live out our faith. The stories we tell in our art help us share the gifts God has given us.

A children's conversation by Pastor Jeff Lilley In today's Gospel, Jesus says we are salt. Salt doesn't taste good by itself, but it makes food taste good. That's because salt transports flavor. Jesus wants us to transport God's love to others so they can see and understand that love.

A children's conversation by Peggy Anderson You have all seen rainbows, and you know that the rainbow is a symbol of God's love and welcome to all. We have a rainbow right here in church. It's our rainbow banner at the entrance to the Nave. It shows our welcome to all.

A children's conversation by Pastor Jeff Lilley In today's Gospel, Jesus called the disciples to fish for people. We are surrounded by an ocean full of fish, so you have probably all been fishing, but have you ever fished for people? What bait would you use? The disciples we fishing for people by using the love of God, and we can all do the same by sharing the love of God.
