We chat to Stuart Jackson on the phone about growing plants for charity.
I talk to BBC Presenter The Instant Gardener/ The Black Gardener Danny Clarke about #BlackLivesMatter, something that I've held off from discussing, but feel the importance of it and how it is represented in the garden industry. We also discuss his BBC show the instant Gardener Danny Clarke is a professional garden designer, maintenance practitioner and landscaper. A self confessed “friend of the earth” Danny is not only an experienced horticulturalist, but also an established TV presenter and expert. The Oxford born son of a British Army officer, Danny initially considered embarking on a military career or as a professional sportsman, but his extensive travels abroad inspired him to pursue his love of nature and the great outdoors. He gained a keen eye for design which led him to become a highly acclaimed and in demand landscaper and designer, helping bring people’s visions and ambitions for their gardens to life! Danny’s creativity and fresh approach hasn’t gone unnoticed and it was for this reason that he went on to land a co presenter role on BBC one’s garden transformation show “The Instant Gardener” alongside Helen Skelton. The series sees the pair and their team called upon by people up and down the nation whose gardens are in desperate need of some TLC. Using his sharp eye for design and passion for ambitious, imaginative concepts Danny and the team work tirelessly to transform the space and provide viewers with straightforward and useful tips on how they can revamp their gardens. His career in TV has gone from strength to strength and he was given the honour of presenting for the BBC at the iconic RHS Chelsea Flower Show and the RHS Flower Show at Tatton Park. He’s also been a contributor on horticulture across the BBC’s Inside Out and has a number of exciting projects in the pipeline, so 2016 is set to be a very busy and green fingered year! During a 24 hour podcast with Richard Suggett we ask who are GreenFingers Charity, and we chat to Linda from the charity who discusses the incredible work they do for children's hospices.
Greenfingers are a national charity dedicated to supporting children who spend time in hospices around the UK, along with their families, by creating inspiring gardens for them to relax in and benefit from. Creating beautiful, well-designed outdoor spaces for children to enjoy with their family, friends and siblings, whether through play and fun, or therapeutic rest and relaxation.
Greenfingers Charity is driven by the belief that time spent outdoors, away from the bedside, can offer children and families under considerable stress a vital opportunity to embrace the benefits of being in the fresh air and engaging with the natural environment. They are committed to creating specially designed, stimulating garden spaces that can bring many benefits to children with life-limiting conditions.
Whilst many people may take for granted the simple pleasure of being able to enjoy a garden, for these children, their siblings and their families, the chance to spend time together outdoors and away from the bedside is precious.
Linda Petrons, over 15 years of charity fundraising, comms experience and project-management experience, working for local and national charities, is responsible for Income Generation, overseeing PR and Communications and hospice and contractor relationships. Outside of work, Linda has two grown-up children, has recently rediscovered the gym, enjoys family time, dog walking, socialising and spending time in the garden.
Their new #floralfriday social media campaign is a fabulously fun way in which to raise awareness for Greenfingers Charity and the gardening industry with a floral selfie!
