President Cyril Ramaphosa on Thursday condemned the killing of an unarmed passerby by South African police during a university student protest for free education, describing it as deeply disturbing.

A 35-year-old government worker was caught in crossfire on Wednesday while walking out of a doctor’s office and shot dead on a Johannesburg street where university students were protesting to demand the scrapping of fees debt.

“This is most unfortunate and it disturbed me quite deeply because it demonstrated that whilst our people were protesting rather peacefully, there was overreach, it seem like, that by the police,” Ramaphosa said.

evidence suggests "it is extremely likely" that the same person was responsible for the three deadly shootings at massage parlors in the metro Atlanta area, police said Tuesday.

Eight people were killed and one person was wounded in the attacks. Two of the shootings were at spas across the street from each other in northeast Atlanta and the other happened about 30 miles away in Cherokee County to the northwest of the city.

"Video footage from our Video Integration Center places the Cherokee County suspect's vehicle in the area, around the time of our Piedmont Road shootings," the Atlanta Police Department said in a news release. "That, along with video evidence viewed by investigators, suggests it is extremely likely our suspect is the same as Cherokee County's, who is in custody. Because of this, an investigator from APD is in Cherokee County and we are working closely with them to confirm with certainty our cases are related."

A Black mother from San Marcos, Texas has filed two complaints with a local school district after her daughter's teacher allegedly told white classmates that they could use the n-word, a racial slur for Black people. 😡 The mother's daughter was the only Black student in the class. On Monday night, Tasha Fennell spoke to the board of the San Marcos Consolidated Independent School District (CISD) about its racial diversity and inclusion efforts following the alleged December 2020 incident.

Fennell said that her daughter, Azariah, heard a male student interrupt her class in Doris Miller Jr. High School by opening the door and saying, "What's up, my [n-word]?" When another male pupil told the student that he couldn't say the n-word, the teacher allegedly responded, "If Black people can say it then white people can say it, too."

As with many things these days, there is a lot of misinformation, skepticism, and conspiracy theories surrounding the COVID-19 vaccine. However, inside the Black community, concerns about receiving the vaccine are based on actual events from the past. There’s the Tuskegee Syphilis study where hundreds of African American men from Alabama were forced to suffer from untreated syphilis as the government withheld treatment to see the outcome. Then there’s the story of Henrietta Lacks whose cells were stolen and used for medical research and the testing of AIDS drugs on Black foster children in the 1980s, all still fresh in many minds.

Almost as soon as Meghan and Prince Harry’s interview with Oprah Winfrey aired, many were quick to deny the allegations of racism that Meghan says drove her to thoughts of suicide. As many Black women watched those social media conversations turn to questioning over whether racism affected treatment of Meghan by the British press and royal family, the headlines and discussions became painfully familiar. Many Black women say it was hard to watch Meghan’s anguished recollections of racism invalidated by the royal family, members of the media and the public, offering up yet another example of a Black woman’s experience being disregarded and denied.

He has spent years and years teaching and preaching about the ways in which we can level the playing field and experience true "power and economics" and he is the person of choice for this commission.  The author of several books, he is acutely aware of the "black struggle" and the systemic "traps and snares" which have held us in bondage to it. He is the person of choice when it comes to reparations and one who we choose be on that commission.
