Chinese AI startups are posing a challenge to Open AI as their generative AI platforms gain popularity in the absence of Open AI's ChatGPT in China. Four Chinese startups, Zhipu AI, Moonshot AI, MiniMax, and 01.ai, have each achieved valuations exceeding $1 billion. They have secured support from local investors and are actively recruiting talent to develop their AI products. With over 260 AI-focused startups in China offering alternatives to ChatGPT, Zhipu AI leads the pack with the highest number of employees and a valuation of $2.5 billion. Moonshot AI, MiniMax, and 01.ai are also making significant strides in the Chinese AI market.
