Chinese No. 2 general expelled from Communist Party

General He Weidong, China's second-highest-ranking general, was expelled from the Communist Party and the military on October 17, 2025, on corruption charges. He was a Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), the highest military body, and a member of the Politburo, the party's top decision-making body.  A statement from the Ministry of National Defense announced that He Weidong and eight other senior military officers were expelled from the Communist Party and military.
