  • Ep. 2.3 Things We Wish We'd Said
Nadia introduces the second of our two episodes on women’s experiences with DACA, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals.
Back in September, she interviewed her longtime friend Nancy, who grew up undocumented in the United States and left the country less than one year before the Obama administration launched DACA in 2012. The program designates about 800,000 undocumented immigrants who came to the U.S. as children as “low priority” for deportation and allows them to work.
Nadia and Nancy’s conversation about DACA happened shortly after President Trump had just announced that he was ending the DACA program on March 5, 2018. It’s currently tied up in the federal court system.
Nancy talks about living without legal status in rural Texas, what it’s like starting over without her family, and why she decided to speak out about her experience.
If you would like to support Nancy in her fight for immigration rights, donate to https://www.raicestexas.org/ways-to-give/donate/

  • Ep. 2.2 The Thing About Immigration
This week we’re bringing you a conversation with the very chingona Andrea de la Vega about the tangled web that is the U.S. immigration system. She is a DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) recipient who shared her story about being a documented immigrant, then suddenly finding herself in immigration limbo.
Andrea is one of 800,000 people in the United States who qualify for DACA, an immigration policy created by the Obama administration that provides some legal protection for young undocumented people. While the Trump administration technically allowed it to expire on March 5, DACA is currently tied up in the federal court system.
Andrea wants to invite other DACA recipients to reach out to her if you’re in need of someone to talk to.
