When we speak about choice, we’re not talking about some sort of cognitive process where you think long and hard about something carefully weigh the pros and cons, and then choose. We are not talk. ing about right answer and wrong answer or good choice and bad choice.
So, how do you choose? You just choose!
As an adult, you choose to get up when the alarm goes off (or not). You choose to make an obscene gesture at the driver who cut you off (or not). You choose to go along with your boss’s request that you stay late to finish a project (or not). You choose how to respond to every situation in your life. You just choose. It’s the same for your kids.
As @garymdouglas says, “Everything is just a choice.”
And your choice doesn’t need to last forever. If you don’t like the choice you made, you can choose something else. What if you could let your kids—and yourself choose, and then choose again?
