Featured Choral Evensong Podcast From Wednesday, March 30, 2016
This Choral Evensong service was sung by the Trinity Cathedral Choir on the Wednesday after Easter, 2016. The Magnificat and Nunc Dimittis are sung to the lyrical setting in F by Sir George Dyson (1883-1964). Dyson studied and taught for many years at England’s Royal College of Music. He served in France during WW I, and wrote the first manual on hand grenade use. The anthem is Rejoice in the Lamb, Op. 30 by Benjamin Britten (1913-1976), setting colorful excerpts from Christopher Smart’s extended poem Jubilate Agno. This iconic piece of music is a perfect celebration of Eastertide and the coming of spring.
    Soloists in this service:
Dyson: Coraine Tate (Magnificat), John McElliott (Nunc dimittis)
Britten: Gabrielle Haigh, soprano; John McElliott, countertenor; Matthew Jones, tenor; Brennan Cockey, bass.
