May 13, 2021Internal Promised Land (Part 2)Most of us are familiar with the migration of the Children of Israel in the Old Testament as they went from Egypt through the wilderness into Canaan. We refer to Canaan as the “Promised Land“—the culmination of all of God’s promises. There is an internal Promised Land that we should be experiencing and enjoying right now while we wait for the manifestation of the external one. I want to look at two passages of scripture: Romans 14:17-18 “For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men.“ Luke 17:21 “…nor will they say, 'See here!' or 'See there!' For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you." When we combine these two verses we can conclude that we should be experiencing peace and joy right now. Our joy does not have to be incarcerated by our circumstance. May 11, 2021Explanatory Style (Part 4)Your explanatory style is simply how you explain events in your life back to yourself. You could also call it your inner dialogue. Behavioral psychologists tell us that 95% of our emotions are based on what we say to ourselves. This is why it is so critical that we engage in the discipline of talking to ourselves. Listening to yourself is passive. Speaking to yourself is active. The enemy wants you to listen to his lies. God wants you to rehearse the truth. The word introspection means to look inside for perspective. Here is my question for you when you look inside for perspective: Are you motivated or discouraged? If the answer is the latter, then it is time to stop listening to yourself all day long and start talking to yourself instead—transforming your inner dialogue into an external one, and going from passive to active....more10minPlay

May 05, 2021Expediency Factor (Part 4)Life is a constant battle between engaging in activities that are tension relieving vs. goal achieving. Self-discipline is the only counterforce to the Expediency Factor--in other words, doing things that are easy or expedient versus things that may appear to be difficult but that are essential and very important. Self-discipline is a Fruit of the Spirit. The simplest definition of discipline is the ability to make yourself do what you're supposed to do when you're supposed to do it--whether you feel like it or not. We could say discipline is when you exert great effort and achieve something that is not natural for you. Remember, the greatest form of discipline is the discipline you impose on yourself....more11minPlay
