Understanding whether our generation is the “last generation” is one of the most discussed questions in Bible prophecy. Scripture gives glimpses, warnings, and patterns—yet it also reminds us that only God knows the exact hour. Still, Jesus commands believers to watch, discern, and stay ready.

What Does “Last Generation” Mean in Scripture?

Matthew 24:34 records Jesus saying, “Truly I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place.”

The Greek word for generation (genea) can mean:

* A literal 30–40-year age group

* A lineage or ethnic people

* A type of people with a specific moral or spiritual condition

Because of this, we have debated its meaning for centuries. But what matters most is Jesus’ emphasis on timing, signs, and readiness rather than date-setting.
