The Power of the Holy Spirit
I. The Person of the Holy Spirit
The Holy Spirit is a Person, not an impersonal force.
The Holy Spirit is God, co-equal and co-eternal with the Father and Son in essence, nature, and will. (2 Cor. 3:16-18)
II. The Work of the Holy Spirit
The Spirit is seen in the work of creation. (Gen 1:1-2) (Job 33:4)
The Spirit is the source of our regeneration. (Titus 3:4-6) (John 3:3-8)
The Spirit is the Indwelling Presence of God in every believer. (Romans 8:9-11) (1 Cor 3:16)
The Spirit is the primary agent of our sanctification.
11 Ways the Spirit Works in our Sanctification
He is our Ever Present Helper (John 14-15)
He is our Intercessor (Romans 8:26-27)
He gives us the desire for obedience (Ezekiel 36:27)
He produces fruit of righteousness in us (Galatians 5:16-26)
He Gives us assurance of Adoption (Romans 8:14-16)
He brings conviction (John 16:7-8)
He reveals the Will and Wisdom of God (1 Cor 2:10-13)
He interprets and Illuminates the Scripture (John 14:26)
He brings Unity and Fellowship among the church (Eph 4:3-4)
He is our power of evangelism and witness - (Acts 1:8)
He distributes spiritual gifts and determines our place of service in the body - (1 Cor 12:4-6, 11)
III. The Hindrance of the Holy Spirit
We can grieve the Holy Spirit with sins of commission (Eph 4:30)
We can quench the Holy Spirit with sins of omission (1 Thes 5:19)
We Must be filled continually with the Holy Spirit.
Application - It is time we become personally acquainted with the Holy Spirit so that the people of God can again experience the true Power of God.
