There is an old traditional song entitled “Shout for Joy”. It tells the Christmas story starting with the line, “Mary had a baby, (Shout for joy). The words of the song tell the old, old story, that has the power to create newness in our lives.

In the second to the last chapter of the Bible—Revelation 21:5—we read of God sitting on His throne and proclaiming “Look, I am making all things new!” This year has been a journey of choosing to follow Jesus. When we choose the path of following Jesus we sign up for a life of ministry. We are called to be a part of God’s restoration process of a broken world as we point others toward God. But we are not alone in this process. God is with us!

In Psalm 33 begins “All you who are righteous, shout joyfully to the Lord! It is right for those who do right to praise God.” This brings about singing a “new song” to God. “Sing to him a new song; play skillfully, and shout for joy” (Psalm 33:3). This psalm is a reminder to praise God for His faithfulness to us and for His strong hand of protection, and to put our hope and trust in Him.

God is always in the business of making everything new. It is good to take times of assessment of our lives to note all that God has done and to look for future direction that God is calling us to go. God is always laying groundwork for new things to happen in us. The story of Christ coming into the world is a great reminder of this and inspires us to sing a new song with our lives.

Praising God is the best way to start over with God. Make it a point to worship and praise God, seeing all that He has done, as you wait to see God sing a new song in your life.
