Christ Church Jerusalem

Living Beyond Our Fears | Rev. David Pileggi

13 March 2022 - Second Sunday in Lent - Psalm 27 and our Gospel passage today are tied together by the theme of fear. In this psalm, we discover that biblical worship – where we behold God’s beauty, express joy, and offer sacrifice – is the best place to lose our fears and anxieties. The trust and obedience of Jesus, as He refuses to let anything stop him from doing God’s will and walking the way of the cross, also enables us to live beyond our fears by faithful obedience to him, the one who conquered death itself. Sermon by Rev. David Pileggi.

6 March 2022 - First Sunday in Lent - In this world, we will face testing and trials. It is at these times, says Rev. David Pileggi, that we need to hear the voice of the Lord - not only for encouragement to remain faithful but to strengthen our identity in Him. We should not be surprised when trials come our way, we must be prepared.

27 February 2022 - Transfiguration Sunday - The story of the Transfiguration brings the season of Epiphany to a close. As with the Baptism of Jesus at the beginning of Epiphany, a voice from heaven is the highlight of the Transfiguration passage. The voice of God connects the life and ministry of Jesus with the entire Hebrew Bible and commands Jesus’ disciples to listen to him in a biblical context. Sermon by Rev. David Pileggi.

20 February 2022 - Seventh Sunday of Epiphany - In just a few verses Luke records an occasion when Jesus taught his disciples how to live transformed lives, both as a community and individuals. The heart of this is summed up in three words: Love your enemies. Deacon Neville Jones walks us through several of Jesus' examples of how we should respond when subjected to insults, physical aggression and injustice. And more than that, how through forgiveness and generosity we can reflect the character of our merciful Father in heaven.
