Jesus' bold claim is that while He comes to bring us life to the full, there are other "voices" that seek to steal, kill, and destroy. Throughout our lives, we will battle constantly to hear rightly the voice of Jesus over every other voice. Hear the voice of Jesus calling you His own - by name, because He loves you. Lean into Him. Trust Him. Stick with and follow Him, because, in ourselves, you and I are worse off and more vulnerable than we think.

But in Christ, you and I are more loved and protected than we could ever hope.

Our ultimate hope in life is not from this world but for this world. Jesus Christ the light of the life, the hope of the world - the light that shines in this dark world that He loves.

One of the most well known and somewhat controversial episodes in the life and ministry of Jesus. When a woman is caught in the sin of adultery by the religious leaders, Jesus responds as only One who is God would. By applying with authority the law of God and the grace of God in forgiving sinners, Jesus frees her up to be a real sinner and really changed by grace.

Because with Jesus, real sinners get not only God's heart but a new heart.

Through the sermon, we discovered more and more why we can actually trust the Bibles we have to be the very Word of God for our faith and life.

When Jesus is a threat to your religion, where will you go for satisfaction?

Nowhere. It can't be found anywhere but from the Author of life itself. The One who can bring water out of a rock promises to make rivers of living water flow out of the heart that trusts, believes, and is satisfied with Christ alone.

That's the gospel. Everything else is a parody or its idolatry.

Jesus gives us enough to go on: either to kill Him or to trust Him.

How do we continue to trust and follow God when we want to do something else? How do we reconcile what we want with what He wants? What we think with what He thinks? His timing with ours? 

In John 7:1-31 Jesus challenges us with the reality that there are two kinds of doubters - those who are looking for a reasonable answer to their questions and concerns, and those who are just looking to keep Jesus at a distance. The question before us all is which kind of are we? To Jesus what matters more than what we want in any given moment, is whether or not we want to want the living God. This is the will to do God’s will and follow Jesus that He’s most concerned with.

What is the nature of true faith? What does it mean to be a follower of Christ and not just a fan? In John 6:41-71 Jesus confronts and challenges us with the fact that we can only have Jesus and the life He brings on His terms, not our own. Faith then is not casual acceptance of or partial obedience to God but comprehensive surrender to Christ.
