https://www.christchurchnashville.org/media/service-archive/dont-fret-yourself/When Joseph confronted his brothers after years of suffering, he had a choice. Would he repay them for the cruel way they had treated him? Would he let them go without further comment because they were no longer his concern? Whatever Joseph decided would profoundly affect the rest of the biblical story.
He decided to reframe his story. “You meant it for evil, but the Lord meant it for good.” In other words, he saw God’s direction of his life as more important than his brother’s actions and decided to align himself with God’s story rather than react to his brothers’ story.
This is the kingdom response to the struggles we face with the world, the flesh and the devil. We learn to frame our suffering from these things with the belief that God is in control and will eventually work all things for our good.
So we don’t fret.
