Grace

Hebrews 13:20-21 (slide content for the congregation).

a. 20 Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord,

i. Now the God of peace,

ii. who brought up from the dead (ἀναγαγὼν aorist participle active of ἀνάγω)

iii. the great Shepherd of the sheep

iv. through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord,

21 equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

i. equip you in every good thing to do His will (καταρτίσαι aorist optative active of καταρτίζω)

ii. working in us that which is pleasing in His sight (ποιῶν present participle active of ποιέω)

iii. through Jesus Christ,

iv. to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.

A DAD YOU CAN RUN HOME TO

1. A wise father knows how generosity can lead to discipleship.

2. A wise father doesn’t play favorites with his children. This dad divided his wealth among both sons (Luke 15:12).

3. Dads who take responsibility, know how to help their sons and daughters be responsible.

4. Dads who receive grace can give grace.

5. When sons and daughter’s come to their senses, they experience humility. Dads who model humility, become a safe place for sons and daughters.

6. Dads who are present, stabilize their marriage, and live by kindness, are the dads that kids can run home to.

7. A dad with God’s heart seeks out his sons and daughters before they even realize it.

8. A dad with God’s heart can handle the nasty details without having a fit of rage and anger. “YOU DID WHAT….”?

9. Dads who receive grace can give grace regardless of which child needs it.

Here are my notes on what I want each person at Christ Church to do:

1. Love God.

2. Love people.

3. Find your purpose in the Kingdom of God and not this world.

4. Practice the gift of forgiveness.

5. Don’t forsake the assembling of yourselves together.

6. Walk with the Holy Spirit and serve in your gifting.

7. Do the good and hard work of God’s will for your marriage and family.

8. Pray for me and Steven.

9. Help us grow Christ Church.

10. If you do these things, you give us the gift of joy and not grief.

Hebrews 13:15, “15 Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name.” 15 δι’ αὐτοῦ οὖν ἀναφέρωμεν θυσίαν αἰνέσεως διὰ παντὸς τῷ θεῷ, τοῦτ’ ἔστιν καρπὸν χειλέων ὁμολογούντων (ὁμολογέω) τῷ ὀνόματι αὐτοῦ.

1 John 1:8-10, “8 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess (ὁμολογέω) our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” 8 ἐὰν εἴπωμεν ὅτι ἁμαρτίαν οὐκ ἔχομεν, ἑαυτοὺς πλανῶμεν καὶ ἡ ἀλήθεια οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν ἡμῖν. 9 ἐὰν ὁμολογῶμεν (ὁμολογέω) τὰς ἁμαρτίας ἡμῶν, πιστός ἐστιν καὶ δίκαιος ἵνα ἀφῇ ἡμῖν τὰς ἁμαρτίας καὶ καθαρίσῃ ἡμᾶς ἀπὸ πάσης ἀδικίας.10 ἐὰν εἴπωμεν ὅτι οὐχ ἡμαρτήκαμεν, ψεύστην ποιοῦμεν αὐτὸν καὶ ὁ λόγος αὐτοῦ οὐκ ἔστιν ἐν ἡμῖν.
