Nearing the end of his life, Peter closes his second letter with four exhortations on how we are to wait with anticipation for the return of Christ, the destruction of the ungodly and the world, and the coming of the new heavens and new earth. Peter calls believers to holiness, being on guard for false teachers, counting on the patience of the Lord as salvation, and to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ. These points demonstrate how different God’s priorities are for his followers than those encouraged by our modern culture.
