“For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though he was rich, yet for your sake he became poor, so that you through his poverty might become rich.” 2 Corinthians 8:9

In this season of our Mid-Year Giving Review, Paul has much to teach us about this area of giving – of our time, our talents, and especially in these 2 chapters of 2 Corinthians, of our treasure. The ground of our giving is always the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Giving is not intended to be a duty, a chore, or a transaction to earn favour with God – but it is a cheerful, thankful response to the amazing grace of God at work in our lives.

On Sunday, we had the joy of worshipping God together as a whole church family... in my mind, there is nothing quite like it! As it was Father's Day, we heard about the story of the Prodigal Son (or The Loving Father as some call it). Jesus told this story to show just how much God loves his children (that's us by the way).

Just like the younger son, there's so much in life that we're not satisfied about. The way we look, the way we live, our education our inner self. Something is lacking and we don't know what it is, but we know we're unsatisfied and we look elsewhere to meet our needs to be satisfied. How often do we take the things the God has given us and waste them, forgetting the giver completely.

Sunday was an emotional day as we said farewell to the Weston family. They have faithfully served at Christ Church for the past 10 years and made a significant impact in the lives of many people. This was clearly seen in the number of people who attended the church service and the BBQ, and the many kind words that were spoken about Steve, Sara and their wonderful boys.

The Weston’s are an example of people who live with an attitude of humble service and consistently put others before themselves. In the sermon last week, I spoke from Philippians 2:1–11 about humility and service, the kind shown supremely in the life of Jesus.

Prayer is one of the most important habits we can develop as followers of Jesus. Not only does scripture command us to pray often, but there are many benefits to building a life of prayer. Prayer connects us relationally to God. In the heart of every Christian is the desire for a more profound, more meaningful connection with the Lord.

Prayer, the heartfelt conversation with our Heavenly Father, is the lifeline that God allows us to pray because as a loving Father, he has adopted us as his children and given us free access to his throne. Prayer gives us the opportunity to worship and say ‘thank you’ to God for who He is and for what He has done for us.
