LIVING IN THE LOVE, FAITHFULNESS AND FRUITFULNESS OF DISCIPLINE

Hebrews 12:5-15 (ESV) 5 And have you forgotten the exhortation that addresses you as sons? “My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. 6 For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives.” 7 It is for discipline that you have to endure. God is treating you as sons. For what son is there whom his father does not discipline? 8 If you are leftwithout discipline, in which all have participated, then you are illegitimate children and not sons. 9 Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? 10 For they disciplined us for a short time as it seemed best to them, but he disciplines us for our good, that we mayshare his holiness. 11 For the moment all discipline seems painful rather than pleasant, but later it yields the peaceful fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it. 12 Therefore lift your drooping hands and strengthen your weak knees, 13 and make straight paths for your feet, so that what is lame may not be put out of joint but rather be healed. 14 Strive for peace with everyone, and for the holiness without which no one will see the Lord. 15 See to it that no one fails to obtain the grace of God; that no “root of bitterness” springs up and causes trouble, and by it many become defiled;

Discipline: the act of providing guidance for responsibleliving, upbringing, training,instruction, education, discipline,correction.

(1)    The Father’s  Love in Discipline (v5-6)  

God’s discipline is not to be disregarded ordiscouraging,  because it is an act oflove toward those who have his delight.

(2)    The Father’s Faithfulness in Discipline (v7-10)

As a faithful father God’s discipline hasloving intention, because of his affection for all his children.

(3)    The Father’s Fruitfulness In Discipline (v11)

God’s discipline is not to be judged by howit feels to us, but according to the Faithfulness in which God yields fruit inus.

(4)    The Faithful Response To The Father’s  Discipline (v12-15)

God’s love, faithfulness and fruit in discipline should inform and strengthen our response in all circumstance.

1 Corinthians 15:35–44 (ESV) 35 But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body do they come?” 36 You foolish person! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37 And what you sow is not the body that is to be, but a bare kernel, perhaps of wheat or of some other grain. 38 But God gives it a body as he has chosen, and to each kind of seed its own body. 39 For not all flesh is the same, but there is one kind for humans, another for animals, another for birds, and another for fish. 40 There are heavenly bodies and earthly bodies, but the glory of the heavenly is of one kind, and the glory of the earthly is of another. 41 There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory. 42 So is it with the resurrection of the dead. WHAT YOU UNDERSTAND SHOULD STIR AWE, WONDER & ANTICIPATION OF GOD’S PLANS, WHICH WE CAN’T FULLY COMPREHEND.

 QUESTIONS THAT SHOULD HUMBLE US IN AWE NOT EMBOLDEN US IN PRIDE (v35)

THE GLORY OF CREATION WE KNOW SHOULD POINT US TO THE WONDER OF OUR CREATOR (v36-41)

WHAT IS SOWN IN THIS BODY CAN’T COMPARE TO WHAT WE ANTICIPATE IN OUR RESURRECTED BODIES (v42-44)

1 Corinthians 15:29–34 (ESV) 29 Otherwise, what do people mean by being baptized on behalf of the dead? If the dead are not raised at all, why are people baptized on their behalf? 30 Why are we in danger every hour? 31 I protest, brothers, by my pride in you, which I have in Christ Jesus our Lord, I die every day! 32 What do I gain if, humanly speaking, I fought with beasts at Ephesus? If the dead are not raised, “Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die.” 33 Do not be deceived: “Bad company ruins good morals.” 34 Wake up from your drunken stupor, as is right, and do not go on sinning. LIVE IN THE PEACE ANDPLEASURE OF ANTICIPATING YOUR FUTURE RESURRECTED LIFE WITH CHRIST

PEOPLE KNOW THERE ISLIFE AFTER DEATH, THAT’S WHY SOME SEEK SALVATION TO LATE (v29)

WE KNOW THERE IS LIFE AFTER DEATH, THAT’S WHY ARE SATISFIED TOSUFFER DAILY IN ANTICIPATION (v30-32)

 WE MUST APPLY WHAT WE KNOW, IN OUR THEOLOGY , IN OUR COMPANY, AND IN OUR MISSION (v32-34)

THE RESURRECTION OF CHRIST WAS THE POWER OF GOD,

THAT DECLARED THE FULFILLED PROMISE OF GOD,

2 Corinthians 4:1–6 (ESV)

1 Therefore, having this ministry by the mercy of God, we do not lose heart. 2 But we have renounced disgraceful, underhanded ways. We refuse to practice cunning or to tamper with God’s word, but by the open statement of the truth we would commend ourselves to everyone’s conscience in the sight of God. 3 And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. 4 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. 5 For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. 6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
