Family gatherings can be both heartwarming. However, amidst the joy, we cannot escape the reality of family brokenness.

This week's message delves into the life of King David, a figure admired by many but also deeply flawed. Through the stories of David's family, we uncover the truth that families are a mixed bag. Every family, no matter how loving or accomplished, has its flaws and tensions.

As we confront the brokenness in our own families, we often find ourselves wrestling with guilt and shame for our contributions to these fractures.

David's journey, while filled with triumphs and failures, offers us hope and a path forward. Despite his shortcomings, he sought humility in the face of suffering and depended on prayer to find solace and guidance in God's mercy. We too can find hope in God's grace, which surpasses the brokenness of our families and empowers us to grow, change, and move forward in faith.

In God's wisdom, Scripture presents us with stories like Tamar's to remind us that He does not ignore injustice. We'll explore critical questions that this passage raises, such as cultivating our deepest desires instead of our strongest ones and considering who we listen to in life.

2 Sam 12:1-14 // Bill Gorman

In this sermon, we explore the story of David and Nathan from 2 Samuel 11-12. We see the shocking nature of David's actions and how the Bible portrays the reality of dark chapters in our lives. Hidden sin leads to death and destroys our relationships with God, others, and ourselves.

However, when our sins are exposed, it becomes a display of God's grace. It may be uncomfortable and unwanted, but it is what we need. We are encouraged to pray to be caught in our sins and to run to God for forgiveness and restoration.

As we prepare for communion, we join in a prayer based on Psalm 51, recognizing our need for God's cleansing and renewal. Ultimately, the message reminds us of the transformative power of God's grace when our sins are brought into the light.

As we consider the kind of friend that Jonathan is, we’ll see three truths from this story that counter our culture’s myths, and also point beyond friendship to a deeper human need we have. We all want a friend who makes our friendship primary, who’s intentional with us, and who sticks with us even when it’s costly…. But it’s much harder to be that kind of friend for others. What might it look like for you to take a step towards sacrificing in your friendships?
