Smyrna: The Persecuted Church | Revelation 2:8-11 by Christ Community Church of Magnolia

Love ebbs and flows. Love grows and fades. That’s true in human relationships as it can be true with our relationship w/ Jesus. So, what causes this? What can we do about it? Fortunately, Jesus has some answers for us today!

Apocalyptic writing is a literary style that we may not be used to but carries rapturous illustrations that can help us understand spiritual realities in the present. The description of Jesus in Revelation 1 is intended to reveal the character of Christ and energize His church’s confidence in Him.

When you have to wait for something, how patient are you? At the end of the 1st Century, the apostle John is reminded that King Jesus would return to rule & reign. Yet, we are still waiting. What gives us a sure hope to believe today? What should life as a Christ follower look like until that day? Let’s dig into God’s word and see!

Anticipation. It's why we watch home renovation TV shows and go to gender reveal baby parties. We want to know how things turn out. The book of Revelation is the true story of how it all turns out. So, let’s turn up & tune in to God’s word today!

Identity is a hot topic in our day. Identity reveals who we are and why we do what we do. As a disciple of Christ, what’s our identity? What does that identity say about how we “should” live? As we start 2024, we see Jesus’ heartfelt prayer for us to live out our identity as His disciples.

Psalm 90 shows us the brevity of life and urgency to live with eternal perspective. Let us see how 2024 can be given to the glory of God with eternal impact.

At Christmas, we give and receive gifts. Those gifts are often based on “being bad or good.” But how bad is too bad? How good is good enough? Today, we look at God’s gracious paradigm of giving the ultimate Christmas gift! Let’s open God’s word and listen & believe this essential gospel truth on Christmas Eve!

How do you act when the person in charge isn’t looking? In the final pages of Nehemiah, the leader of God’s people heads out of town for a while. While away, how do the people of God do? How would you fare? Their failure is our failure today. The real question is, what (or who) brings about lasting change?

God is telling a story written throughout time and He works through people to accomplish His good proposes. We call the progress of this story the Providence of God and it has empowered God’s people through all ages.
