  • The Beginning of the End - Abomination and the Antichrist

    The Servant of God

“The Beginning of the End - Abomination and the Antichrist”

    Ma. 13:14-23

    The Abomination (vv. 14-18)

Forces from him shall appear and profane the temple and fortress and shall take away the regular burnt offering. And they shall set up the abomination that makes desolate. (Dan. 11:31).

And he shall make a strong covenant with many for one week,[a] and for half of the week he shall put an end to sacrifice and offering. And on the wing of abominations shall come one who makes desolate, until the decreed end is poured out on the desolator.” (Dan. 9:27)

5 And the beast was given a mouth uttering haughty and blasphemous words, and it was allowed to exercise authority for forty-two months. 6 It opened its mouth to utter blasphemies against God, blaspheming his name and his dwelling (Rev. 13:5-6b)

And from the time that the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that makes desolate is set up, there shall be 1,290 days.( Dan. 12:11)

    The Tribulation (vv.19-20)

“And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and pleas for mercy, so that, when they look on me, on him whom they have pierced, they shall mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and weep bitterly over him, as one weeps over a firstborn.  (Zech. 12:10)

    The Impersonation (vv. 21-23)

Children, it is the last hour, and as you have heard that antichrist is coming, so now many antichrists have come. Therefore we know that it is the last hour. (1 Jo. 2:18)

    • Who is the antichrist?
    • 13 It performs great signs, even making fire come down from heaven to earth in front of people, 14 and by the signs that it is allowed to work in the presence of[d] the beast it deceives those who dwell on earth, telling them to make an image for the beast that was wounded by the sword and yet lived.  (Rev. 13:13-14).

9 The coming of the lawless one is by the activity of Satan with all power and false signs and wonders, 10 and with all wicked deception for those who are perishing, because they refused to love the truth and so be saved. (2 Thess. 2:9-10).

    • The Beginning of the End - Tribulation

      The Servant of God

“The Beginning of the End - Tribulation”

      Ma. 13:7-13

      The Signs of Death (vv.7-8a-b)

What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions[a] are at war within you?  2 You desire and do not have, so you murder. You covet and cannot obtain, so you fight and quarrel … (Ja. 4:1-2d).

      The Signs of Disaster (vv.8c-e)

27 Now in these days prophets came down from Jerusalem to Antioch. 28 And one of them named Agabus stood up and foretold by the Spirit that there would be a great famine over all the world (this took place in the days of Claudius). (Acts 11:27-28).

      The Signs of Dissension (vv.9-13)

For it has been granted to you that for the sake of Christ you should not only believe in him but also suffer for his sake, Phil. 1:29

8 “And I tell you, everyone who acknowledges me before men, the Son of Man also will acknowledge before the angels of God, 9 but the one who denies me before men will be denied before the angels of God.  (Lu. 12:8-9).

35 For I have come to set a man against his father, and a daughter against her mother, and a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law. 36 And a person's enemies will be those of his own household. (Matt. 10:35-36).

20 Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. 21 But all these things they will do to you on account of my name, because they do not know him who sent me. (Jo. 15:20-21).

14 But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. 15 For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, 16 to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life.  (2 Cor 2:14-16b).

They went out from us, but they were not of us; for if they had been of us, they would have continued with us. But they went out, that it might become plain that they all are not of us. 1 Jo. 2:19

The 6 reasons why Biblical Prophecy is important:

      1. Reminds us that God is sovereign (Matt. 28:19-20; Rev. 1:18)
      2. Reminds us that God is good (Ro. 8:18)
      3. Reminds us to be holy (1 Jo. 3:3)
      4. Reminds us how to live today (2 Pet. 3:10-13)
      5. Reminds us to evangelize (Matt. 25:41,48; 2 Thess. 1:7-9)
      6. Reminds us of our hope (Rev. 19:7)

        • Pride (vv.38-39; Matt. 23:8-11)
        • Greed (v.40a)
        • 2 Pet. 2:3,14,18 And in their greed they will exploit you with false words... having eyes full of adultery and that cannot cease from sin, enticing unstable souls. They have a heart trained in covetous practices, and are accursed children. …For when they speak great swelling words of emptiness, they allure through the lusts of the flesh….

          Hypocrisy, the Woes (v. 40b; Matt. 23:1-36)

Matt. 6:5 “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward.

          The Widow (vv. 41-44)

2 Cor. 8:12b-14 it is acceptable according to what a person has, not according to what he does not have. 13 For I do not mean that others should be eased and you burdened, but that as a matter of fairness 14 your abundance at the present time should supply their need, so that their abundance may supply your need, that there may be fairness.

          • The question of the Christ

            The Servant of God

            “The Question of the Christ”

            Ma. 12:35-37

…I will set up your seed after you, who will come from your body, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He shall build a house for My name, and I will establish the throne of his kingdom forever. 14 I will be his Father, and he shall be My son. 2 Sam. 7:12b-14

The LORD – יְהֹוָה Yᵊhōvâ my Lord – אָדוֹן Adonoi.

34 For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says, “‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at my right hand, 35 until I make your enemies your footstool.”’ 36 Let all the house of Israel therefore know for certain that God has made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified.” (Acts 2:34-36).

9 Therefore God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father. Phil. 2:9-11

37 And the Father Himself, who sent Me, has testified of Me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form. 38 But you do not have His word abiding in you, because whom He sent, Him you do not believe. Jo. 5:37-38

16 and Jacob the father of Joseph the husband of Mary, of whom Jesus was born, who is called Christ. 17 So all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations, and from David to the deportation to Babylon fourteen generations, and from the deportation to Babylon to the Christ fourteen generations. (Matt. 1:1,6,17).

            If God became a man…

            • He Would Talk Like God
            • He Would Walk Like God
            • 8 But of the Son he says,“Your throne, O God, is forever and ever, the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of your kingdom. 9 You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has anointed you

with the oil of gladness beyond your companions.” 10 And, “You, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth in the beginning, and the heavens are the work of your hands; Heb. 1:8-10.

15 He is the image of the invisible God…  16 For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. 17 And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together. (1 Cor. 1:15a, 16-17).

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made through him, and without him was not anything made that was made... 14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. (Jo. 1:1-3,14).

              The Servant of God

              “The Greatest Command”

              Ma. 12:28-34

              The Interpretation (vv.28-31)

Deu. 6:4-9 4 “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.[b] 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might. 6 And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.

7 Pt. Test of Love for God:

              • Do I enjoy spending time with my Lord?
              • Do I do things that please my Lord and increase His joy?
              • Do I brag on my Lord to others?
              • Do I tell my Lord that I love him?
              • Do I talk with my Lord as much as I can?
              • Do I have a deep, intense and abiding affection for my Lord?
              • Is the Lord the all-consuming passion of my life?
              • Lev. 19:18 You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself..

Ro.13:9-10  9 For the commandments, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and any other commandment, are summed up in this word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” 10 Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

                “A Doctrinal Debate”

                Ma. 12:18-27

                The Opening Statement (vv.18-23)

                The Rebuttal (vv. 24-27)

25 And he said to them, “O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! 26 Was it not necessary that the Christ should suffer these things and enter into his glory?” 27 And beginning with Moses and all the Prophets, he interpreted to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning himself (Lu. 24:25-27).

For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at the last he will stand upon the earth. 26 And after my skin has been thus destroyed, yet in my flesh I shall see God, 27 whom I shall see for myself,  and my eyes shall behold, and not another.

My heart faints within me! (Job 19:25–27)

Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure. For you will not abandon my soul to Sheol, or let your holy one see corruption. (Psa 16:9-10)

For we know that if the tent that is our earthly home is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. 2 For in this tent we groan, longing to put on our heavenly dwelling, ….  4 For while we are still in this tent, we groan, being burdened—not that we would be unclothed, but that we would be further clothed, so that what is mortal may be swallowed up by life. (2 Cor. 5:1-2,4).

                The Clarification (v.17)

13 Be subject for the Lord's sake to every human institution,[b] whether it be to the emperor[c] as supreme, 14 or to governors as sent by him to punish those who do evil and to praise those who do good.  (1 Pet. 2:13-14).

3 For rulers are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you have no fear of the one who is in authority? Then do what is good, and you will receive his approval, 4 for he is God's servant for your good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword in vain. For he is the servant of God, an avenger who carries out God's wrath on the wrongdoer…… 6 For because of this you also pay taxes, for the authorities are ministers of God, attending to this very thing. 7 Pay to all what is owed to them: taxes to whom taxes are owed, revenue to whom revenue is owed, respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed. (Ro.13:3-4, 6-7).

What 5 Things Christians Owe the Government:

                1. Taxes (Ro. 13:6-7)
                2. Obedience to the law (Ti.3:1; 1 Pet. 2:15-16)
                3. Honor and Respect (Ti. 3:1-2; 1 Pet. 2:17)
                4. Godly Citizenship (Jer. 29:5-7).
                5. Prayer (1 Tim. 2:1-4)
                6. For kingship belongs to the Lord, and he rules over the nations. (Psa. 22:28)

What We Do Not Owe the Government:

                  1. Preaching (Acts 4, 5:29)
                  2. Prayer (Dan. 6:4-5, 10, 19-22)
                  3. Idolatry (Dan. 1:3-19, 3:16-18)
                  4. Life (Est. 3; Exo. 1:15-20)

“A Story of Judgment on Religion”

                    Ma. 12:1-12

                    Past (vv.1-5)

2 Pet. 3:9 The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.

How about you? If you haven’t come to Christ yet, how many chances do you think you’ll get? You know how many you deserve? NONE.

Matt. 23:29-33  29 “Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you build the tombs of the prophets and decorate the monuments of the righteous, 30 saying, ‘If we had lived in the days of our fathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ 31 Thus you witness against yourselves that you are sons of those who murdered the prophets. 32 Fill up, then, the measure of your fathers. 33 You serpents, you brood of vipers, how are you to escape being sentenced to hell?

                    Present (vv.6-8)

                    Future (vv.9-12)

Isa. 65:15 You shall leave your name to my chosen for a curse, and the Lord God will put you to death, but his servants he will call by another name,

Ro. 9:30b-33 30 What shall we say, then? That Gentiles who did not pursue righteousness have attained it, that is, a righteousness that is by faith; 31 but that Israel who pursued a law that would lead to righteousness did not succeed in reaching that law. 32 Why? Because they did not pursue it by faith, but as if it were based on works. They have stumbled over the stumbling stone, 33 as it is written, “Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offense; and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame.”

Matt. 7:24, 26-27 24 “Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock… 26 And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. 27 And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.”
