The Power to Heal (vv. 25-27)
The Power from Prayerful Faith (vv.28-29)
4 Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. 5 I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. (Jo.15:4-5).
14 And this is the confidence that we have toward him, that if we ask anything according to his will he hears us. 15 And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests that we have asked of him. (1 Jo. 5:14–15).
Principles Of a Powerful Prayer Life
A powerful prayer life is part of a relationship, not religion (Mt. 22:37, Luke 10:38-43, John 17:3).
- Why?
1.Prayer is a command (Phil. 4:6)
2. Prayer is crucial to understanding scripture (Psa. 119:18)
3. Prayer leads to peace and joy (Jo. 16; Ja. 4:2)
4. Prayer is an essential to winning spiritual warfare (Ma. 9:29; Eph. 6; 2 Cor. 10:3-5).
5. Prayer may lead to healing (Ja. 5:15-17)
whatever we ask we receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. 1 Jo. 3:22
“The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord, but the prayer of the upright is acceptable to him” (Pro. 15:8).
6. Prayer is crucial to obeying and serving Christ (Jo. 15:7-8)
7. Prayer is crucial to evangelism (Acts 2-4).
8. Prayer is central to revival (2 Chr. 7:14, Dan. 9:4-22)
- How? (Matt. 6:7-13; Lu.11:2-4) A.C.T.S.
Our 4 Questions aim to prepare you to:
The Servant of God
“The Glory of Christ and Our Future Glory”
Mark 9:2-8
The Glorious Change (vv. 1-4)
20 But,” he said, “you cannot see my face, for man shall not see me and live.” 21 And the Lord said, “Behold, there is a place by me where you shall stand on the rock, 22 and while my glory passes by I will put you in a cleft of the rock, and I will cover you with my hand until I have passed by. 23 Then I will take away my hand, and you shall see my back, but my face shall not be seen.” (Exo. 33:20-23).
The Glorious Hope (vv. 5-8)
16 For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. 17 For when he received honor and glory from God the Father, and the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” 18 we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. 19 And we have the prophetic word more fully confirmed, to which you will do well to pay attention as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts, (2 Pet. 1:16-19).
Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. (1 Jo. 3:2)
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us. 21 that the creation itself will be set free from its bondage to corruption and obtain the freedom of the glory of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation has been groaning together in the pains of childbirth until now. 23 And not only the creation, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. 24 For in this hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience. (Ro. 8:18, 21-25).
The Servant of God
“The Call and Cost of Discipleship”
Ma. 8:34-37
Deny, Die & Follow (v. 34)
23 And someone said to him, “Lord, will those who are saved be few?” And he said to them, 24 “Strive to enter through the narrow door. For many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able (Lu.13:23-24)
13 “Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy[a] that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. 14 For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few. (Matt. 7:13-14)
26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate his own father and mother and wife and children and brothers and sisters, yes, and even his own life, he cannot be my disciple. 27 Whoever does not bear his own cross and come after me cannot be my disciple. (Lu.14:26-27).
Eph. 5:15-18
Redeem Your time (vv. 15-16)
Psa. 90:12, So teach us to number our days, That we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Paul told his readers from the Roman church, you know the time, that the hour has come for you to wake from sleep. “Wake up! Get busy!”
Gal. 6:10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.
139:16 And in Your book they all were written, The days fashioned for me, When as yet there were none of them.
Pro. 27:1, Do not boast about tomorrow, For you do not know what day may bring forth.
Jonathan Edwards 70 resolutions (Jan. 1723):
Resolved, never to lose one moment of time, but to improve it in the most profitable way I possibly can.
Resolved, to live with all my might, while I do live.
Resolved, to ask myself at the end of every day, week, month and year, wherein I could possibly in any respect have done better. Jan. 11, 1723.
Matt. 26:41 Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.”
So, we have to be on the lookout. If you look around what’s happening in our world, the morally relativistic and wicked culture we have before our eyes, the way society is going, its not hard to see these times are evil.
Be Filled with the Spirit (vv. 17-18)
