The ego has us become attached to everything. As Buddha said, "All suffering comes from our attachments." This is quite a profound statement by Buddha, for what he is saying is that if we give up all our attachments we no longer have to experience suffering at all. Again it isn't the outside thing that causes the suffering. It is our attachment and addiction to outside things
that causes our suffering. Let's explore this principle....

We discuss the two most important relationships in your life which are the relationship to yourself and your relationship to God. In actuality, your relationship to self is even more important than your relationship to God. If you are wrong with yourself and allow yourself to be run by your negative ego, then you will project this wrong relationship to self onto everything in your life including
your relationship to God.

One of the profound realizations I had in studying A Course in Miracles was gaining an understanding about what the past and future really are. If you think about the past, what is it? It is a memory. What is a memory? A memory is an image in our mind. What is an image? An image is a thought. So what this means is that the past is totally under our control for it is nothing more than images or thoughts in our mind, and our thoughts and images are totally under our control.
