  • “Things In Heaven And Things On Earth”
July 11, 2021: May God’s words be spoken, may God’s words be heard.  Amen. The English language is filled with annoying and even downright hilarious examples of how crazy it can be.  Take the fabulous Oxford comma, a crucial grammatical tool, especially when we consider a sentence like this one with, or without, the comma:…

  • “What To A Christian Is The 4th Of July?”
July 4, 2021: May God’s words be spoken, may God’s words be heard.  Amen. Someone once said, “Who can ever forget Winston Churchill’s immortal words: “We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills.” That…

  • “A Shepherd, Seeds, And A Killer Rabbit”
June 13, 2021: May God’s words be spoken, may God’s words be heard.  Amen. If you have never had a chance to watch a Monty Python movie, well… what are you waiting for?  Anyway, as I was thinking about the readings for today, I was reminded of one nearly iconic scene from the classic “Monty…

  • “Hold My Sweet Tea!”
June 6, 2021: May God’s words be spoken, may God’s words be heard.  Amen. Well, it’s been awhile, right?  This two Sunday a month worship can sometimes feel like an eternity when we have a five Sunday month as we did in May, but that will all be behind us in September as we return…

  • “Abide In My Love”
May 9, 2021: May God’s words be spoken, may God’s words be heard.  Amen. Today is not only the sixth Sunday of Easter, but as we all know, it is Mother’s Day, and of course we wish all of you who are celebrating this holiday, a day filled with love.  It is a day we…

  • “Crucified & Resurrected”
April 11, 2021: May God’s words be spoken, may God’s words be heard.  Amen. I love the stories of the early resurrection appearances – to Mary Magdalene first, then the disciples (well, except Thomas), then Cleopas and the woman walking with him on the road to Emmaus (presumably his wife)[1], then Thomas, then the boys…

  • “He Is Not Here!”
Easter Sunday – April 4, 2021: May God’s words be spoken, may God’s words be heard.  Amen. Every time I hear this version of the Easter story – the one found in the Gospel of Mark, I just have to say two things.  First –  “that is no way to run a resurrection!”  The Gospel of…

  • “My God, My God, Why Have You Forsaken Me?”
April 2, 2021 – Good Friday: May God’s words be spoken, may God’s words be heard.  Amen. Tonight we continue the service begun last night, that will end on Sunday.  It is the Paschal Triduum, and as I mentioned last night at the beginning of the service, to make that much more clear to everyone,…

  • “What Love Means”
Maundy Thursday – April 1, 2021: May God’s words be spoken, may God’s words be heard.  Amen. Tonight we enter into the most holy and sacred time of our lives as followers of Jesus, because tonight we enter into the three part service known as the Paschal Triduum – Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter. …

  • “It Is Already Late…Bethany Awaits”
Palm Sunday – March 28, 2021: May God’s words be spoken, may God’s words be heard.  Amen. Now, as I have often mentioned on this wild and crazy day we call Palm Sunday, good preachers will say, “Don’t try to preach everything that is going on in the texts today – it is too much.” …
