Introduction
Jeremiah’s promise that God would bring “justice and
righteousness in the land” comes to its strange and wonderful
fulfillment in the cross of Jesus, the King of the Jews. It looks for
all the world like a royal disaster — a king on a cross beside
criminals. Yet in this seeming defeat, Jesus pulls off heaven’s
greatest surprise: through the gate of death, he swings open the
door to paradise.
