We're starting a new series 'Psalms of Ascent' today. Literally, the songs the Hebrews' sang as they went up the dusty paths of Judea to the temple in Jerusalem. A bit like fisherman who sing shanties or slaves singing the blues, these were songs to keep you going, remind you who you are, point you in the right direction or to get you home. There's a spiritual ascent too... they cover the highs and lows of life... and they're Psalms, so it's done in a personal, real kind of way... but they always direct the singer towards God, they always point up.
