  • Behind the Song: More of You by Red Letter Society

Red Letter Society is a Virginia worship collective united in a passion to write songs for the Church.
Following graduation from Bible school, a group of friends found themselves located in the same city. A weekly get-together to sharpen music skills quickly turned into songwriting sessions and, later, Red Letter Society was born. While multiple members of the team serve in full-time ministry at their local churches, the band is motivated by a fervor to see the global Church continue to grow in the truth of God’s Word and to surrender to His Lordship in their lives.

This week, we brought back Red Letter Society to talk about their song "More of You." The song was written during a video call writing session between band members. They were inspired by John 3:30 - "He must become greater; I must become less." The chorus emerged first and they knew they had something special, even as they continued to work through arrangements to land on the right musical and melodic elements.

  • Behind the Song: Rapha by Stephen McWhirter

In this episode, we have Stephen McWhirter back to share the story behind his worship song "Rapha." He explains that the name comes from the Hebrew Jehovah-Rapha, meaning "The Lord Who Heals." During an Instagram live songwriting session, Stephen and Jason Clayborne asked viewers what issues they wanted prayer for, and many requested healing. So right on the livestream, they wrote the chorus and bridge, declaring God's healing over listeners.

After completing the song together later, Stephen produced the recording himself. He discusses his belief that intimacy with God grows when we love Him for who He says He is, not begging Him to be who He already is. Though healing doesn't always happen how we hope, Stephen clings to God's unchanging nature. Overall, he offers encouragement for creatives to keep testing ideas while trusting God's guidance through the process.
