Christina Rose
“One day I will start my car and drive straight to my lover man
And lordy he will comfort and console me like no other can”
But trouble and bad fortune seem to follow wherever she goes
Or so that’s how it always seemed to be for lovely Christina Rose
Married and wished she didn’t have to; cause the lesser of two evils
Is sometimes worse than a cotton field that’s covered in boll weevils
Love soured to blood smeared pain, black eyes and a bloody nose
Freedom led to more of the same, but it didn’t stop Christina Rose
Battered again from the inside out, left to deal alone and scared
Abandoned, peppered with the echoes of lovers who said they cared
Looks so pretty, does her makeup and her hair but it still shows
Loneliness hides underneath the façade of beautiful Christina Rose
Then random chance had a drink with well-rehearsed opportunity
Across a picnic bench, became entrenched, hearing his abstrusity
A man who saw inside, past the well-done makeup and styling clothes
His aim was to mend the wounds that life had dealt sweet Christina Rose
Anything but easy, this transformation was even harder than it seemed
Hard to believe in something, that before today was just a tale she dreamed
Until she stretched across his chest laid, her head down and he kissed her nose
She felt a feeling like she never had, a quiet calmness swept across Christina Rose
And now she stands, with her keys in hand
Motionless despite all of her best laid plans
She wants to go back and lay her head on his chest
But she just doesn’t know how to deal with the rest
All the while her man is waiting, decorating tomorrow with colorful ribbons and bows
To celebrate the day when he looks out his window, to see beautiful Christina Rose
