EP 66: Today’s guest spent years working inside Canada’s federal penitentiary system as a crisis negotiator and mental health nurse, helping people through some of the most intense and traumatic moments imaginable. But after years of carrying the emotional weight of that work, she found herself facing her own battle with PTSD. What ultimately became part of her healing journey wasn’t just traditional therapy — it was fishing. Since then, she’s made it her mission to help have fishing recognized as a legitimate therapeutic tool for mental health disorders, working with government agencies and helping change the conversation around trauma and recovery. Her journey is now even being featured in an upcoming documentary by the National Film Board of Canada. I’m incredibly honored to have this conversation today with Christine Lapeer.
