Christmas Calls You to Inconvenience
Day 2:
Trusting Without Understanding
Devotional
Mary’s question to Gabriel wasn’t born from doubt but from genuine confusion: “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” She didn’t understand the mechanics of God’s plan, but she was willing to trust anyway. This is the heart of faith - believing God’s promises even when we can’t see how He’ll fulfill them. We live in a culture that demands explanations for everything. We want detailed plans, clear timelines, and guaranteed outcomes before we commit to anything. But God often calls us to step forward in faith before we have all the answers. Like Mary, we’re asked to trust His character when we can’t trace His hand. The virgin birth wasn’t just a miracle for Mary’s time - it was God doing something completely unprecedented in human history. Through the Holy Spirit’s power, Jesus became the only person ever born with solely an earthly mother. This unique birth fulfilled ancient prophecies and demonstrated that God’s ways are far beyond our human understanding. When God calls you to something that seems impossible, remember Mary’s example. She didn’t need to understand the how before she said yes to the what. Her willingness to trust God’s promises, even in the face of the impossible, positioned her to be part of the greatest story ever told. Faith isn’t about having all the answers. It’s about trusting the One who does.
Bible Verse
And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?” And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. - Luke 1:34-35
Reflection Question
In what area of your life is God asking you to trust Him without having all the answers?
Quote
“Like Mary, God is calling you to things that you don’t yet fully understand because you haven’t experienced them yet. And this should trouble you in your flesh.”
Prayer
Father, increase my faith to trust You even when I don’t understand Your methods. Give me the courage to say yes to Your calling, even when it seems impossible. Amen.
