Day 4: Steward What You Have Been Given
Devotional
The problems are enormous, and your one voice and your one vote can feel like nothing at all. So you quit before you start. Understand this clearly: God has never asked you to fix the country. He has asked you to be faithful with what He has actually placed in your hands.
Philippians 2 tells you that Jesus has been given the name above every name, and that one day every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord. Every knee. Presidents, senators, judges, you. That ending is not in question. It is settled. The only question is how you live today in light of it.
You already apply stewardship to your money and your calendar. Apply it to your influence. If you live in a country where your voice and your vote still carry weight, that is a gift from God. Gifts come with accountability.
You do not have to be a politician or a policy expert to be faithful here. Show up. Stay informed. Pray for wisdom. Make the best decisions you can for the good of your neighbor and the glory of God. That is the whole assignment.
Hear this today: God is not setting you up to fail. He is calling you into something that matters for eternity. Grace does not excuse you from the work. Grace is what lifts the weight off your back so you can get moving.

Lord, You placed me in a time and a place where my voice still counts for something. Thank You. Help me steward that gift with wisdom and courage, and keep me from wanting my own comfort more than I want Your glory. Amen.

Christ and Politics, Week 1

Day 3: Silence Is Not Neutral
Devotional
You have convinced yourself that staying out of political conversations is the humble, peaceful choice. It is not humility. It is comfort wearing humility’s clothes. It keeps the dinner table quiet and your relationships easy. But silence is never neutral.
When Christians walk out of the culture, the conversation does not stop. It simply continues without you in the room. The values behind our laws, our policies, and our cultural norms will reflect somebody’s worldview. If believers are absent, it will not be a biblical one.
Romans 13:1 says governing authorities exist because God established them. But that same God holds those authorities accountable to His standard. When a government walks away from that standard, the Church is not called to look at the floor. It is called to speak.
History is clear on this. A culture does not collapse in one dramatic afternoon. It erodes slowly, while men and women of conviction choose comfort over courage and hand the field to people who have no convictions at all.
You cannot change everything. You can steward what is in front of you. Your voice in your community, your vote in your precinct, your presence in the conversation, these things matter. Sitting it out is still a choice. Do not make that choice by default.

Have you ever justified your silence on important cultural or political issues as humility or peacemaking, and what might faithful courage look like instead?

God, give me the courage to speak when silence would be easier, and the wisdom to speak like a man who belongs to You. Do not let my love of comfort pass itself off as faithfulness. Amen.

Day 2: God Was Never Absent from the Public Square
Devotional
You have been told that faith is private and politics is public and the two must never touch. That idea is not in your Bible. It came from somewhere else. God has been shaping ordered society since the very beginning.
From Eden, to the nation of Israel, to the Church of Jesus Christ, God has always built communities and called His people to live faithfully inside them. He does not retreat from culture. He redeems it. He always has.
Psalm 24:1 settles the ownership question. The earth belongs to God. All of it. So the public square is not secular territory where God is an unwelcome guest. There is no such thing as neutral ground. It is His, and His people represent Him there.
Politics simply means life together. God has never been silent about how His image-bearers live together. The laws, the structures, the cultural norms that shape a society do not appear out of nowhere. Every one of them is somebody’s morality written down. The only question is whose.
You were not dropped into this moment by accident. God put you here, in this country, in this generation, with a voice and a vote that still carry weight. That is not a burden to survive. It is a privilege to use.

Day 1: He Made It All, He Owns It All
Devotional
You compartmentalize your faith. You bring Jesus into worship, into your marriage, into your private struggles, and then you quietly show Him the door when the conversation turns to politics. Call that what it is. Scripture does not allow that division.
Colossians 1:16 is not subtle. Everything that exists was made by Jesus and for Jesus. Thrones. Dominions. Rulers. Authorities. That includes the governments and political structures you live under every single day. There is no corner of creation He does not own.
Work that out practically. What happens in city halls, state legislatures, and courtrooms is not outside God’s concern. He is not neutral about how a society is ordered. He invented ordered community, and He has a great deal to say about how it runs.
This is not a call to political obsession. It is a call to stop lying to yourself. If Jesus is Lord of all, then all means all. Your faith is not a Sunday hobby. Everything is spiritual, and that includes how you live as a citizen.
You do not need every answer before you start engaging faithfully. You need the right foundation. Jesus made it all, and He claims it all. Start there. That one truth will reorder everything else.

In what areas of your life have you been treating Jesus as Lord in name only, while practically leaving Him out of the decisions you make?

Lord, forgive me for fencing off the parts of my life where I did not want Your lordship. I have called that wisdom. It was cowardice. Teach me to hand You every square inch, including how I engage the world around me. Amen.

Day 4: Grace That Changes Everything
Devotional
Second Samuel 24 ends with David on his knees at an altar he paid for, watching a plague stop because God showed mercy. That is not the triumphant ending you were hoping for. It is the true one. A guilty king, a holy God, and mercy that cost somebody something.
That is your story. Every believer’s story.
When you actually see what grace cost, it does not leave you sitting still. It does not leave you hunting for the minimum. It wrecks you in the best way there is. It resets your priorities, rewires what you want, and makes everything else look small.
Paul told believers to present their bodies as a living sacrifice. Not to earn a thing. Not to impress anybody. He grounds the command in the mercies of God. In what has already been done for you.
Grace is not permission to live however you please. Grace is the power that changes what you please. See the cross for what it is, understand the wrath that was absorbed and the mercy that was handed to you, and nobody has to talk you into giving Jesus your life. You will want to.
Grace, seen clearly, leaves nothing else worth giving your life to. That is not a weight on your back. That is freedom.

Reflection Question
If grace truly changes what we want and not just what we do, what is one area where you sense God inviting you to surrender more fully to Him?

Prayer
Lord, drive your mercy so deep into me that surrender stops feeling like loss and starts feeling like joy. Make me a person who gives everything, because in Christ I have already been given everything. Amen.

2 Samuel, Week 29

Day 3: Worship That Actually Costs Something
Devotional
David walked onto the threshing floor of Araunah and was handed everything for free. The land. The oxen. The wood for the fire. All of it, no charge. David turned it down.
His reason should bother you. He refused to hand God an offering that cost him nothing.
Hold that up next to your own life. You show up on Sunday, sing a few songs, shake a few hands, and leave satisfied that you did your part. Worship that asks nothing of you is not worship. It is decoration.
The blood of Jesus was not cheap. It is the most expensive thing ever spent in the history of the universe. Once that lands on you, the question changes. You stop asking how little you can get away with giving and start asking how much you can put on the altar.
You do not earn salvation. You respond to it. Grace is not opposed to effort. It is opposed to earning. A faith that never reaches your calendar, your bank account, your relationships, or your comfort has not yet understood the price.
You were not bought with silver or gold. You were bought with the blood of Christ. That does not deserve a nod on your way to lunch. It deserves your whole life handed back to him, and handed back gladly.

Is there an area of your life where you have been offering God something that costs you nothing? What would it look like to give that area to Him fully?

Prayer
Father, I have treated worship like a routine and called it devotion. Forgive me. Show me plainly what my redemption cost you, and give me the backbone to answer with my whole life. Amen.

2 Samuel, Week 29

Day 2: The One Who Could Actually Stand in the Gap
Devotional
Watching a man offer himself up in another man’s place does something to you. David saw the plague fall and told God to turn his hand against him instead of the people. Moses stood in the gap for Israel. Paul said he would be cut off from Christ himself if it would save his brothers.
They meant it. Every one of them loved their people enough to die for them. And not one of them could pull it off. A sinner cannot absorb the penalty owed by another sinner. He already owes his own. The debt does not clear.
This is why Jesus is not like them.
He was not part of the problem. He had no sin of his own to answer for. He walked into the gap owing nothing, which made him the only one able to pay what you owed. He gave himself as a ransom. Nobody forced his hand. He chose it.
You think your sin is too deep, too ugly, or too repeated to be covered. Hear me. The one standing in the gap for you is not a flawed man giving it his best effort. He is the sinless Son of God and his payment cleared the whole account. Permanently.

Reflection Question
When you think about Jesus as your mediator, does it feel like a distant theological concept or a personal reality? What would it look like to lean on that truth today?

Prayer
Jesus, you are the mediator I could never be for myself. I could not pay a cent of it. Your ransom was enough. Let that truth free me to obey you today. Amen.

2 Samuel, Week 29

Day 1: Justice and Mercy Together
Devotional
You have felt this tension yourself. How is a God of perfect love also a God who judges? It sounds like a contradiction. It sounds like two things that simply cannot occupy the same space at the same time. It is not.
That tension is put to death at the cross of Jesus Christ.
God did not look away from your sin. He did not lower the bar or wave it off quietly. Every sin has a price, and the price had to be paid in full. Here is what should wreck you: God paid it himself. He satisfied his own justice so he could hand you mercy without ceasing to be holy.
That is not a loophole. That is love at its most expensive.
When your sin is staring back at you, you do not have to guess whether God is angry or merciful. Look at the cross. Both are there. His wrath was poured out completely on Jesus so his mercy could be poured out completely on you.
You did not get a reduced sentence. You got a full pardon, bought at the highest price ever paid. That is not a God who is torn between two impulses. That is a God who is perfectly consistent and relentlessly good.

It was to show his righteousness at the present time, so that he might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.” — Romans 3:25–26 (ESV)
Reflection Question
How does understanding that God satisfied His justice rather than setting it aside change the way you think about His forgiveness in your own life?

“At the cross of Jesus, God did not relax His justice in order that He might show mercy. No, he satisfied his justice in order that he might show mercy and be just at the same time.”
Prayer
Lord, you did not choose between justice and mercy. You satisfied both at the cross. Teach me to stop living like someone on probation when you have given me a full pardon. Amen.

2 Samuel, Week 28

Day 5: His Mercy Is Greater
Devotional
Look at everything David walked through. The census. The conviction. The consequences. What stands out is not his failure. It is God’s faithfulness. David sinned, and real consequences followed. God’s mercy outlasted every one of them.
Forgiveness is not cheap. God the Son died so that God the Father could forgive you without compromising His own justice. That is the weight of the cross. When you bring your sin to God and ask for mercy, you are not asking Him to look the other way. You are standing on the finished work of Jesus, who already paid it in full.
There will be earthly consequences for your sin. God is just, and He does not erase the natural outcomes of your choices. But those consequences do not get the final word. His mercy does.
Micah 7 tells us God delights in steadfast love and will again have compassion on His people. It does not matter where you have been or what you have done. God’s mercy is not exhausted. It is new every morning, and it is bigger than whatever you are carrying today. Stop running. Bring it to Him. He is trustworthy.

“Or do you presume on the riches of his kindness and forbearance and patience, not knowing that God’s kindness is meant to lead you to repentance?” — Romans 2:4 (ESV)
Reflection Question
Do you truly believe that God’s mercy is greater than your worst sin, and if not, what is holding you back from fully trusting Him with it?

“The reason you can fall into the hand of God for your sin is that you know that all of his eternal wrath against your sin was poured directly onto His son, Jesus Christ on the cross.”
Prayer
Father, Your mercy is not cheap and it is not exhausted. Thank You. Help me to receive Your forgiveness fully and to live in the freedom Jesus purchased for me at the cross. Amen.

2 Samuel, Week 28

Day 4: Falling Into the Right Hands
Devotional
God gave David a choice of consequences for his sin, and David refused to choose. He would not pick from the list. He said he would rather fall into the hand of God than into the hand of men. That was not desperation. That was faith.
David had history with God. He watched God deliver him from Goliath when the odds were impossible. He watched God protect him from Saul when there was nowhere left to run. He had already tasted God’s mercy after his devastating failure with Bathsheba. David knew from experience that God’s character holds, even when the situation is painful.
That same trust is yours. You do not have to white-knuckle your way through the consequences of your sin. You do not have to manage the fallout alone or hide from God until things settle down. You can fall into His hands right now. He is just and He is merciful.
You can trust God with your sin, and not because it feels right or you hope it works out. It is grounded in the cross of Jesus Christ. All of God’s wrath against your sin was poured out on His Son so that His hands toward you could be hands of mercy. That changes everything.

What is one consequence or struggle in your life right now that you have been trying to manage on your own instead of trusting God with it?

Lord, I choose to fall into Your hands today. Your mercy is greater than my sin. Your character is worthy of my complete confidence. Help me to stop running, stop managing, and start resting in You. Amen.
