Christ's Church of Flagstaff - Sunday Sermons

What exactly is “good” about the news Christianity brings?

With. For. Ahead.

If God is WITH me, I can be anywhere.

If God is FOR me, I can love anyone.

If God is AHEAD of me, I can dive into life with hope.

“When the days were approaching for His ascension, He was determined to go to Jerusalem; and He sent messengers on ahead of Him, and they went and entered a village of the Samaritans to make arrangements for Him. And they did not receive Him, because He was traveling toward Jerusalem. When His disciples James and John saw this, they said, “Lord, do You want us to command fire to come down from heaven and consume them?” But He turned and rebuked them and said “You do not know of what kind of spirit you are; for the Son of Man did not come to destroy people’s lives, but to save them.” And they went on to another village.”

‭‭Luke‬ ‭9:51-56‬ ‭NASB2020‬‬

Habits are some of the powerful forces in our lives and I believe we can harness them to help ourselves achieve New Normal.

Old Normal isn’t coming back.

What if we put our effort toward ensuring our lives are more and more like the life God is calling us toward instead of working really hard to get things back to way they used to be?

Habits are so powerful because most of the time we run on auto pilot.

Have you noticed that?

Worship is pointing my heart toward God.

Baptism is an act of worship

Exodus 14:21-22

Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the Lord drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. The waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with a wall of water on their right and on their left..

Colossians 3:12-16a (NIV)

Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly...

Stories about Jesus and the way that he interacted with people are so encouraging! So filled with Hope, with a Future, with Healing.

As we look at these stories together, we are going to do so through a specific set of questions:

- What does this story teach us about God?

- What does this story teach us about people?

- Since we believe this story is from God, what do you want to do or change in your life this week because of it?

- Who else needs to know this story?

God has a Story of Hope that He wants you to Hear as well as to Share.
