Joseph could end them with a word. He has the position, authority, and backstory to justify vengeance.

But he chooses something more powerful than revenge: forgiveness with accountability. He doesn’t let them off the hook immediately. He tests them. He watches for change. He weeps privately. But in the end, he leans into mercy, not wrath.

This kind of forgiveness isn’t weakness. It’s strategic strength. It opens the door to healing—not just for Joseph, but for his entire family, and ultimately for the birth of a nation.

In today’s Gospel, Jesus gives authority to the Twelve—men who will go on to doubt Him, abandon Him, and even betray Him. He already knows what they’ll do. But He still trusts them with His mission.

Jacob realizes the impossible: he has wrestled with God Himself. This encounter leaves him limping—but blessed, renamed, and transformed.

What kind of God wrestles with people instead of simply overpowering them?
The same God who, in today’s Gospel, looks out over helpless crowds and feels deep compassion—then calls for laborers, not lightning bolts.

Jesus doesn’t fix everything instantly. He invites participation. He calls for people willing to struggle, pray, labor, and carry the mission forward.

Jacob’s story shows us that sometimes the struggle is the miracle. God doesn’t just grant blessings; He uses the wrestling to transform our identity. The limp becomes a reminder: you were changed not when you got what you wanted, but when you held on long enough to become someone new.

Whatever you’re wrestling with right now—prayer, pain, disappointment, questions—may not be something God removes quickly. It might be something He’s using to rename you.

Because God doesn’t always calm the storm. Sometimes He joins you in the storm and wrestles you into your true name.
