Welcome to Chronicles of Old Singapore. Dr Edmund Monteiro was the Medical Director of Middleton Hospital & CDC from 1980 to 1993. He remembers the first time he stepped into the hospital with his family during the Japanese Occupation. An Indian boy his age welcomed him at the gate and asked him, is the water here safe to drink, and can you swim?
