He was an athletic legend at East High School in Denver as well as the University of Colorado, which is why he’s in both of their Hall of Fames. Chuck Williams was also a journeyman through the ABA and NBA in the late 1960’s and into the 1970’s, but he almost wasn’t. Chuck was drafted by the 76’ers out of college, but he got ousted by a player who came over from the Lakers in a trade for Wilt Chamberlain. Chuck decided basketball wasn’t meant to be and came home. Thankfully he kept playing in AAU leagues while getting his master’s degree from CU. His professional journey started a year later, and he became one of the building blocks for today’s NBA.
After his career was over, Chuck had a hand in a couple of successful businesses, neither of which had to do with his undergrad and graduate degrees of Physical Education. Reinvention can be anything you want it to be.
