Processing Life | Trusting God’s Mercy in our Rebellion

We all have moments of rebellion against God. There was one from David that cost the people of God many lives. God actually gives David a choice of which discipline should be given to the people because of David’s decision. In that moment, David entrusts himself and the people to the mercy of God, knowing that whatever His mercy is bringing is going to be what is best.

What happens when you make a colossal mess of things? David did this. He took a woman into his bed that was not his wife. Then when she became pregnant, David arranged her husband’s death to cover things up. David thought he had hid his sin well, but God knew. And God sent a messenger to address David. We have David’s response in Psalm 51.

This chapter in 1 Samuel is just one of many where David is being chased and running for his life. He had been secretly anointed as future king, but now he was running for his life. He wasn’t sure if he would make it. Caves were his home and those rejected from society were his mighty men. Things were not looking good for him. This is where we get to see what is happening in his heart as he is hunted.

As soon as the work on the tabernacle was finished, the glory of God came upon the tent in such a strong way that no one, including Moses, could enter. God’s glory rested in their midst. And as they would move throughout their journey, the cloud or pillar of fire would lead them and the tabernacle would follow. God was always leading or in their midst.

Exodus | Doing His Work

Exodus 35-40:33

God wanted His people to be able to meet with Him. He gave very strict orders about how to construct the tabernacle, the place where His glory would dwell in their midst. Because the people of God were always moving during this time, the tabernacle was not an immoveable temple, but rather a moveable tent. The people were called to participate in some way to the construction of this tent. And the response was overwhelming. There was no conversation or disagreement about what to do because God had made it very clear how the work should be done. And just like in their day, we too are invited into doing the work that He has commanded.
