There is a somewhat below-the-radar campaign going on, initiated by Cdl. Blase Cupich of Chicago (an active supporter of all things homosexual in the Church) to rehabilitate the image of his predecessor, Cdl. Joseph Bernardin. To be clear, Bernardin was the prelate who put the homosexual-bishop machine on steroids here in the United States and almost single-handedly helped bring down the Church in America.
But in a massive attempt to rewrite U.S. Church history, Cupich is having diocesan newspapers all over the country publish his propaganda that Bernardin was some kind of hero, an opponent of child sex-abuse who developed a plan to combat it 10 years before the news broke all over America (courtesy of the Boston Globe's Spotlight reporting in 2002).
For Cupich to now try and paint Bernardin as some kind of revolutionary, forethinking genius who was light-years ahead of everyone else is total nonsense. First, the former cardinal and homosexual predator Theodore McCarrick was draped in the same honors as he publicly steered the U.S. hierarchy's official response to the 2002 revelations. Of course, at the exact same time, he was hopping in the sack with vulnerable seminarians — following a long history of homosexual child-abuse on top of his seminarian track record. In other words, a prelate taking the lead on sex abuse means absolutely nothing. In fact, appearing to be a leader in the area is a really good cover.
So with establishing this truth — that appearing to fight sex abuse within the clergy doesn't mean a thing — let's proceed with Cupich's claims about Bernardin.
Bernardin rose to power because John Dearden, the massively heterodox cardinal of Detroit — pro-homosexual, pro–women's ordination, pro–everything opposed to Tradition — raised him by his own hand to become the de facto leader of the U.S. bishops in 1969.
From his perch as Dearden's anointed one, Bernardin set about to undo the U.S. hierarchy and populate it with countless homosexual men. In fact, the plan that Bernardin instituted deftly avoided any mention of the fact that the vast majority of the cases of sex abuse were homosexual abuse of minors or vulnerable adults. That's curious, isn't it? In fact, something is really weird here because, 30 years later, Cupich himself personally shut down any mention of that at the infamous Sexual Abuse Summit in Rome in 2019, a summit that public pressure forced the Vatican to initiate in the wake of the revelations about McCarrick the summer before.
Cupich was conveniently placed in charge and refused to let the topic of either homosexuality or McCarrick be discussed. He just sat there locking down the reporters' questions and refusing to address the two elephants in the room: gay sex and abuse within the clergy and by McCarrick himself.
So forgive us if we deem Cupich not credible in the slightest on this topic. He lies routinely, distorting Church teaching at every turn. He is selling off parishes like pierogi at a Polish festival and amassing a nice treasure chest of endowments from these parishes. All the while, he is ignoring the pleas of the faithful who, in some instances, have raised the needed funds to keep the doors open.
In the process, he has completely sidestepped canon law, which, of course, can't be surprising since he sidesteps Church dogma. So we have one crooked cardinal trying to resurrect the image of another crooked cardinal and attempting to do so under the radar.
Regarding Bernardin himself, Cupich has completely ignored the sordid charges that he knows to exist about Bernardin: that when he was a priest in South Carolina in the mid-1950s, he was directly involved in the sexual assault of a minor as part of a satanic ritual in the basement of a Greenville parish.
Church Militant brought that horrible story to you almost two years ago in our own Special Report — with all the supporting documentation handed to us by an employee of the archdiocese who is sick and tired of the lies and cover-up stretching back decades. We produced the actual correspondence in the file that proves that the archdiocese knew about the allegations.
We have letters back and forth between the victim and bureaucrats. We have letters back and forth between the papal nuncio and victim, between the Congregation for Bishops and the victim and even between the victim and the household of Pope John Paul II.
The file is there — Cupich knows about it, and we have shown it in great detail — and yet Cupich still wants to lie and portray Bernardin as some kind of saint. In addition to this, there were multiple charges of Bernardin sexually abusing seminarians and going to various Church properties to engage in sex with seminarians, accompanied by other bishops. These things went to court where depositions were given and settlements were reached.
Church Militant has actually spoken with one individual (an eyewitness in a rectory in Chicago) who confirms for us that they walked into a bedroom and saw, with their own eyes, Bernardin engaged in sex with a priest. Cupich knows all this, so it is extremely wicked for him to try and present Bernardin as some kind of champion of victims' rights. The only real difference, it would appear, between McCarrick and Bernardin is that McCarrick got caught.
And one final thought on Cupich himself. He is in his current role because McCarrick put him there, just like Cdl. Joseph Tobin of Newark. These men are part of the McCarrick network of compromised clerics who want to cover up the past and rewrite the truth. They despise the Church and now want to make sure that their lies become the narrative.
We're not going to let that happen.

Quite often, the news of corruption, whether in the Church, culture or government, can be quite difficult to hear — not just the degree of it, but the sheer amount of it. It can get to the point that you just don't want to hear it anymore. And believe us, it can get to the point where it's difficult to report on constantly as well.
However, and this is the overriding point, every single instance of corruption means someone else has become a victim — at least one person and usually more than one. If the corruption is not exposed, nearly every victim has no voice because the corruption is usually exercised and participated in by a powerful force, a person or an institution.
It's the classic Goliath and David scenario. The only way to knock out Goliath is to expose Goliath. So as "wash-rinse-repeat" as it may seem, it isn't that way for the latest victim. Whenever corruption occurs, not only is truth offended against, so too is justice.
The prevailing effect of corruption is injustice — someone or some people are deprived of something they are due. The act or practice is done specifically by some entity to personally profit from that unjust act. And when corruption becomes institutionalized, accepted and engaged in as a standard way of operating by the powerful, the little people become crushed.
Often, they lose heart, throw in the towel, accept the cliche that "you can't fight city hall" and resign themselves to a somewhat desperate outlook on life, certainly a more gloomy one. In cases of extreme injustice, they will kill themselves.
Injustice is sinful and, like all sin, it infects, propagates and, if left unchecked and unexposed, its destructive powers know no end. Most people accept that much of the government is corrupt — there are way too many temptations for the man unassisted by grace to resist. In fact, it is precisely because of the enormous power vested in government officials that, at least traditionally, an appeal — "So help me, God" — was made directly to God to help them faithfully execute their duties.
The same is true, although perhaps not as much, in the culture. Corruption in commerce, education, etc., may not get the big headlines that some other spheres do, but pretty much everyone accepts some low-level form of it as "just how things are done."
However, the one area where a huge number of people are still unwilling to concede that corruption is rampant is followers of religion. The irreligious willingly accept that many religious leaders are corrupt, but the followers have proven to be more stubborn in conceding this point.
Within the Catholic world, it is flat-out disturbing how many (with all that has been revealed in the past three years) are still ignorant of the malfeasance on the part of the hierarchy. Many people, too many, are simply willing to go along with whatever evil or corruption a bishop or pastor glosses over because they are a bishop or pastor, as though the office somehow excuses the man from corrupt deeds.
Of course, many Catholic religious leaders know they are often talking to gullible Catholics, and they use their office as a means to control and deflect. And if you press them hard enough, they will turn and walk away or challenge your challenging of them as a sign of disrespect for their office, when, in truth, it is challenging the man in the office.
Every single one of these instances of corruption has at least one victim in its wake, and to palaver with the cleric and stand there making nice with him completely ignores that victim and his or her suffering.
Additionally, corruption in the Church comes in many flavors:
This list of corruption is so numerous and so extensive that it is clear that over the 20th century it seems to have been the actual goal to corrupt the Church.
The short-, mid- and long-term spiritual impacts of this are devastating because, again, corruption creates victims — humans deprived of what is due them. For example, in Detroit, it all coalesced and then took off under the corrupt cardinal, John Dearden. When Dearden was archbishop here in the 1960s, there were close to 500 parishes. A little more than 60 years later, when Vigneron wraps up here in two years, there will be about 50 parishes.
From 500 to 50 — that's quite an impact, a 90% slashing. Of course, the spin doctors at the Detroit chancery will tell you it's not 50 parishes exactly, it's 50 families of parishes; small clusters of already previously clustered parishes forced into the arrangement by dwindling numbers 20 years ago. But that's just a clever deception, a made-up naming convention to gloss over the massively shrinking Church here in Detroit, as is happening in a multiplicity of dioceses around the country.
Corruption has a cost, but unlike a corrupt government stealing your money or freedom or liberty or an election or even your country, a corrupt hierarchy steals salvation from people; it steals eternal life.
But on the way to Hell, there is much desperation along the path. There are shattered families, for example, brought about by a decided lack of morality, brought on by corrupt leaders depriving people of the truth. There are drugs, suicide, mental illness, isolation, loneliness, fear. The road to Hell isn't really paved with good intentions when it barely glimpses what awaits the damned.
Corruption in the Church robs people and deprives them of hope and joy. And in a world whose natural state is bereft of any real hope or joy, ecclesiastical corruption lowers the good to a joyless existence. Life is tough enough on its own, even for the faithful. But to prevent people from having faith — or making it so difficult for them that they struggle deeply to see the point of faith — is downright evil.
Yes, corruption has a very real effect, and it is always necessary to combat it for the sake of the innocent.

The moral collapse that America is in (not approaching, but actually in) is owing to the moral collapse of the Catholic Church — period.
We can talk about how the moral collapse of the Church was brought about, but suffice it to say that because the Catholic Church was established by Jesus Christ, the Church alone has the power to fight and defeat evil in the world. Nothing and no one else is divinely constituted to be able to be victorious over Satan's kingdom.
So if you were Satan, you would attack the very core of the Church — the Holy Eucharist. But in order to do so, you would have to attack the priesthood. And further, while attacking individual priests and bishops, it would be much more strategic to actually attack the formation of these men while they are studying for the priesthood: Destroy them and neuter them at the root.
The process for this began in the early part of the last century and picked up steam in the 1960s and the decades that followed. In the course of our work, Church Militant has had regular contact with seminarians, and the message we hear nonstop is that there is a decided attack against and sidelining of seminarians who dare question the prevailing status quo.
And what is that status quo, precisely? It's the mantra of "inclusion" by the Church of Nice, a distortion of Our Blessed Lord's teaching. It's an attitude that all are saved; social programs are more important than true theology; sin is acceptable, even if mildly regrettable; the Mass should be celebrated in the weirdest fashion possible; altar girls represent inclusion and women's rights. The blather just never stops.
This has all been caused by subtle changes in everything, including language. For example, Mass used to be offered, as in a sacrifice, and it was offered by a priest. Today, and for the last 50 years, Mass is "celebrated" by a "presider." That's stupid — completely and utterly stupid.
But that lingo in the Church of Nice is used deliberately to undergird the narrative that Mass is about us, the people. God isn't particularly involved other than being some entity that makes us great. So we sing some songs, eat some bread, shake hands and are a community. Yay for us!
This entire insanity has been foisted on the Church by sick-in-the-head homosexual clergy who want the people to accept their sin. So they first had to set about to make sure the people were able to accept their own sins of contraception, fornication, divorce and remarriage, masturbation, pornography and so forth. After the work was done to create malformed people in the pews, it was pretty simple to get them to accept a priest's gayness. But bishops had to make sure that the men who were admitted into seminary were either already down with this or could be twisted into thinking it.
As we've already said in a previous Vortex, here in Detroit, the then-vocations director, Fr. Jim Bilot (still a functioning priest here), would question seminary candidates about their sexuality and even send them to gay priests to sleep with them — a kind of admissions test here in Detroit. But none of this was isolated to Detroit. It was spread across the country, even resulting in a series of Vatican-ordered seminary investigations back in the '80s, '90s and 2000s into the problem of homosexuality in the seminaries.
However, many of the bishops who were selected to "investigate" the seminaries were the very men who had created the problem and were sympathetic to the gay hothouses. So Catholics of the faithful stripe find themselves in a quandary. The usual diocesan seminary, even if it has improved somewhat, still recruits many men who are either weak-minded (even if they are privately orthodox) or those who are sympathetic to modernism — in short, cowards or dissidents.
While indications are that young men still considering a vocation might be more believing than the faculty instructing them, it takes more than just private faith to lead the Church from its current swamp of filth. It takes men who will also stand up to the prevailing rot of malformed, modernist bishops and their homosexuality-loving crowd of clergy in the chancery.
Privately believing the Faith means absolutely nothing in a priest if he won't also confront and fight for the people of God. It's better that such a man actually not be ordained and just stay quietly in his house where he can privately believe the Faith.

Yesterday, we told you about the implosion of a wicked bishop in Crookston, Minnesota who was forced to resign for covering up charges of sex abuse to protect a bad priest. Today, we're sliding over to Detroit to tell you about another horrible bishop, who, in this case, manufactured charges of sex abuse to get rid of a good priest. We are not kidding when we repeatedly say that you cannot make this stuff up.
Almost two years ago, Abp. Allen Vigneron sent his goons from the chancery to lie to the parishioners at Assumption Grotto that their pastor, Fr. Eduard Perrone, was being removed from the parish and all priestly ministry because of a credible charge of sex abuse from 40 years prior. All of it was a fantastic lie manufactured by Vigneron and his chancery to sideline Perrone, a well-known orthodox priest considered an enemy by the gay clerical mafia so dominant in Detroit.
Following the announcement at the noon Mass on July 4th weekend, Msgr. Michael Bugarin (Vigneron's hitman for good clergy) was confronted by various parishioners who rightly refused to believe his lies. All he said over and over again was, "Trust the process."
Of course, Vigneron and Bugarin had rigged the process against Fr. Perrone so that also was a lie. Almost 20 months later, the Vatican ruled against Vigneron and Bugarin, saying there was nothing to their case, as Church Militant had reported from the beginning.
For the record, the Michigan State Police had reached the same determination, and not one, but two polygraph tests on Fr. Perrone had also determined he was telling the truth. Every single possible source — cops, tests, alleged victim testimony and Rome — reached the same determination: Vigneron's manufactured charges were a big "nothingburger."
Of course, there was much rejoicing in "Perrone land." Oh, but not so fast: The wicked archbishop and his hitman, now thoroughly embarrassed (not to mention exposed by Rome), couldn't take the public humiliation so, despite Rome saying, "Nothing to see here, folks," Vigneron conjured up another phony claim as an excuse to keep Perrone on ice.
This time another chancery thug (Ned McGrath) with a notorious reputation for lying through his teeth every time he speaks claims Fr. Perrone engaged in "behavior that is unbecoming of the clerical state" during the sacred "process." Translation: They didn't like the fact that Fr. Perrone actually has sued Msgr. Bugarin for defamation in civil court for manufacturing the phony charge of sodomy.
Frankly, what did they expect him to do? Fr. Perrone is determined to see this evil through to its full conclusion, bringing down the entire rotten structure on the heads of these wicked, evil men. After all, he's already won a defamation suit against the Macomb County sheriff deputy Nancy LePage, who cooperated with Bugarin in fabricating the sodomy lie.
In addition to that lawsuit by Fr. Perrone against the lying, wicked Bugarin, the parishioners of Assumption Grotto have also filed suit against Vigneron and the archdiocese for using archdiocesan funds to pay for proceedings against Fr. Perrone when the archdiocese knew the charges were lies.
At the heart of all this rot in the archdiocese, which Vigneron oversees, is an active clique of homosexual clergy stretching back decades and with whom Vigneron is closely associated. A large number of senior clergy are tied up with it. Plum assignments are given to these men. They cover for one another. They stigmatize good priests, and they try to destroy them.
So, for now, Bugarin, who is very much part of "the network" in the archdiocese, is facing an uphill climb since Rome has come down on Fr. Perrone's side. It's going to be a tall mountain to climb to defend himself against defamation when all the facts are laid out in court.
To wit:
So, back at Grotto on that fateful weekend, "Bugs" (as Bugarin is disparagingly called by clergy here in the archdiocese) told everyone to "trust the process." He said it over and over and over again. Well, Bugs, the process is now over, but you and the chancery just can't let go of this because you have been exposed as the filthy, rotten liars you are.
And your whole cohort who has shamelessly defended you — like parishioner Teresa Tomeo of EWTN who makes a fortune off her sucking-up to the archdiocese-of-Detroit powers and who has blasted Church Militant reporting on this whole sordid affair — you have all lost. The whole lot of you: the review board, the retired state judge, Michael Talbot (a deceiver of the highest sort), Bugarin, Tomeo — all of you. The whole world now sees you for exactly who you are.
But there is one lone figure who should be most concerned: the archbishop himself, Allen Vigneron. That wicked man has allowed this nightmare to drag on and on, empowering Bugarin every step of the way, unwilling to tick off his gay friends in Detroit's "lavender mafia." Even in the secular media, the Detroit Free Press is reporting on this scandal of an archbishop refusing to reinstate a priest cleared by Rome.
Well, Archbishop, that sound you hear is the clock ticking for you. Canon law may soon be coming for you. Under canon law, the actions of an appointee of the archbishop actually redound to the archbishop. In other words, everything Bugarin has done is viewed under canon law as though Vigneron has done it himself. So Bugarin can get slammed in a civil court for defamation and then Vigneron would suffer the full humiliation in Church law, as it should be.
Three years ago, Church Militant issued a Vortex saying Vigneron needed to resign. Now, he needs to be removed. And this isn't the only case keeping him up at night. He's also being sued for covering up sex abuse, another reason he needs to be gone.
But Church Militant has also produced a new report, released just this week, about Vigneron covering up a computer-porn scandal at his seminary (involving high-ranking clergy). So as we leave all this for now, we urge you to watch that special report as well.
Vigneron and his whole team are dirty as hell. They are sympathetic to their own and have zero compassion for victims, even victims of their own creation. He needs to go. The entire chancery staff — anyone who has had any involvement in this at all — all of it needs to be burned to the ground and completely started over. And no, Detroit is not an isolated case — just the original one.
Again, please be sure to view the Seminary Porn Scandal Special Report.

The very first bishop on the entire planet to be investigated for the cover-up of sex abuse under Pope Francis' new rules and directives has resigned. Church Militant was the first and virtually only Catholic media outlet to bring you details of the horrible story of Bp. Michael Hoeppner's essentially lying under oath — and certainly being deliberately deceptive — while being deposed in a sex-abuse civil lawsuit.
The now-former bishop of the Crookston, Minnesota diocese covered up for a priest accused of and being sued for sex abuse involving a male teenager. That lawsuit was eventually settled in a secret agreement by the diocese. That practice is standard with these bishops. They lie, cheat, beg, borrow, steal, deceive and do anything to keep their homosexual escapades under wraps and out of view from gullible Catholic laity. But with each passing case coming to light, their cover is being blown more and more.
Hoeppner's bawdy deceptions and wrangling legalistic answers were captured on a video deposition, which Church Militant was the first to show you two and a half years ago. So, in short, good riddance, Hoeppner. You should have been gone years ago. In fact, you probably should never have been made a bishop. Hopefully, many more like you will get your comeuppance — and they better pray they get it in this life rather than have to stand in front of Almighty God and receive a punishment then.
But beyond the particulars of this case, there is the issue of the circling of the wagons and the ongoing refusal to admit and confess what went on here. There's been:
You aren't welcome in Crookston, bishop. Your lies and deceptions tore that diocese apart for years, causing people to choose sides — laity against laity, clergy against clergy — with a victim traumatized all over again.
In all the statements, not one single syllable of remorse, compassion or repentance was uttered. In fact, nothing was offered other than the absolute, barest minimum that can possibly be said or done. Nothing more — it's monstrous. And to add insult to injury, Hoeppner isn't just slithering out of town as he should. A notice was actually sent to priests of the diocese saying that Hoeppner was going to offer a going-away Mass at the cathedral.
In other words, a man who lost his job because he lied under oath about covering up sex abuse and trying to extort the victim by threatening him gets to go out to the strains of "alleluias" and praise, as though he were a decent man and not the rogue he actually is. Bishops, do you want a reason why every faithful Catholic believes you to be completely tone-deaf and uncaring? Well, place this front and center.
The bare facts (as revealed by the institutional leaders of the Church) are these: After a two-year investigation of Bp. Michael Hoeppner regarding accusations that he covered up sexual abuse of a teenage male and threatened to extort that victim, he has resigned.
That's it — no admission of guilt; no open and transparent discussion about the sad, tragic history of the U.S. clergy and hierarchy of homosexuality (not just with each other and consenting adults, but also the molestation and rape of minor males).
The questions that deserve answers are these:
When anything goes institutionally wrong in the secular world, spokesmen are right out-front in a press-conference setting to make a statement and field questions, some of them pretty brutal or direct. Why don't the bishops do this? Do they feel they are somehow above all this? Do they not feel as though their victims deserve to be vindicated publicly, apologized to and given their moment of justice?
What's more likely is the U.S. bishops are horrified that the full truth will come out; that many of them are either homosexual or have covered up for these sins because of their loyalties and sympathies to other bishops or whatnot.
There is a homosexual rot within the U.S. hierarchy, and it has brought the Church to her knees. Even to this very day, many of the bishops all over the country are still pushing their LGBT filth while their buddy bishops say nothing.
These gay bishops, practicing or not, who look the other way and raid the treasury of the Church, revictimize victims, express not the slightest remorse, offer nothing by way of compassion. All of them, as the Irish would say, are wastrels. There can be no healing or turning the corner in the Church until these men are gone.
In this particular case, it was the tenacity of Ron Vasek, and that alone, that brought down this wicked bishop. He would not budge on the question of the deposition, written and oral, being released to the public. Like crooked bishops always want to do, they tried to buy his silence and bully him into signing a nondisclosure agreement, hoping they could keep the public in the dark.
But they didn't realize the quality of the man they were dealing with because they don't understand male nobility. Ron stood his ground. The depositions were eventually released, and Hoeppner's evil was on display for the whole world. And now, Hoeppner's gone — right after the diocese gives him a nice big send-off. Like we said, wastrels.
We are attaching the entire interview we did with Ron the morning the news broke because it provides very rare insight into how these wicked, crooked bishops operate. Because Ron got everything released, the Vatican was more or less forced to can Hoeppner, even though they dressed it up as him resigning. But he was fired and, frankly, he should leave in disgrace and never return to Crookston.
Please watch the entire interview. It's vital you understand how business is done in the Church when it's run by gay, cover-up bishops.

Church Militant (a 501(c)4 corporation) is responsible for the content of this commentary.
It's extraordinarily clear that the planet is breaking into two distinct camps — two different worlds. And before we pursue this any further, let's be clear: We have Donald Trump to thank for this. During his presidency, sides were chosen by practically everyone, and what was accomplished was that everyone knew where everyone else stood. All the facades came down. All the cover-ups and phony "kumbaya garbage" all came to a screeching halt.
Of course, the Marxists hate this outcome because they have now been exposed. But so have the lukewarm Christianity types, the ones who actually let the world descend into its current hellish state. Good! And thanks again, Mr. President. It took a stolen election to finally wake up a sufficient number of people.
Moving on from songs of praise for the "new normal," let's turn our attention precisely to the new normal. The new normal is the revelation that the two worlds are comprised of one that believes in Christ and one that has Christ as its sworn enemy.
The separation is like a fertilized egg undergoing its first division, except, in this case, one of those new cells is seeking to destroy the other. The anti-God forces, having come to major prominence under the reign of the phony-Catholic, unelected Biden, are now on the ascent and dictating the narrative. In truth, they have been doing so for many decades, but not like this. The entire landscape has changed.
Prior to the election theft, they were operating in fits and starts, sometimes organized, other times not as much. But now they are all coalescing, and while they are still finding their footing, they will find it soon enough. For faithful Catholics, the truly disturbing part is that the large part of the Church, institutionally speaking, is cooperating with the anti-God side.
When it comes to the Church, America, freedom, tolerance, equality, morality, virtue, family, education, commerce, law, health, medicine, religion, politics, dignity and even life, each side's view of all of these is 100% diametrically opposed to the other. The human race is spiraling toward either one of two ends: total devastation or a massive showdown between these two forces — and only one will be left standing.
Indeed, we are already in the throes of this happening. The anti-God forces have been gathering and collectivizing for decades, infiltrating every facet of life and culture and achieving near-total dominance. Meanwhile, the forces of those who hold traditional beliefs have been asleep at the switch, snoring their way through the Marxist takeover. And now as these people slowly rouse themselves from their slumber, they are finding they are being demonized, attacked and maligned in every one of the institutions.
It began most forcefully in the academy as hippie Socialists were churned out of the nations' universities back in the 1960s and beyond. Within a generation, the hippies put on tweed jackets, pony-tailed their long hair, and proceeded to brainwash future students. Generation by generation, students graduated and moved into the workplace and up the corporate ladder or the political world, cementing one victory after another, giving us the world we have today.
Until Trump came on the scene, their activities were largely unnoticed. Even today, too few so-called conservatives seem to understand the urgency of the hour. Yet, with or without their knowledge, the storm clouds are gathering quickly as the media combine with government to launch the first attacks, beginning with accusations of "domestic extremism."
But it's not just an accusation of domestic extremism that's the concern, but who the media are lambasting as extremists and a threat to the "American way of life." The New York Times summed it up perfectly with the headline last week: "White Evangelical Resistance Is Obstacle in Vaccination Effort." But what's most telling is the subtitle: "Millions of white evangelical adults in the U.S. do not intend to get vaccinated against COVID-19. Tenets of faith and mistrust of science play a role; so does politics."
While the Times focuses on evangelicals because a larger percentage of them (compared with Catholics) refuses to get the jab, there are millions of faithful Catholics who also will not be getting the experimental gene therapy injected into their bodies.
It is not a vaccine — remember that. In fact, we don’t even really know what it is. What we do know is that the whole COVID scare has been weaponized to shut down an economy, steal an election and propel the forces of world communism into the driver's seat. It has also whipped up a quotient of fear that is easily manipulated by these malevolent forces. And now, if you refuse to get jabbed on either moral or scientific grounds, or both, you are a threat, a terrorist, a hillbilly clinging to your Bible and guns, as Obama would put it.
No one is saying COVID does not take a human toll. But to start forcing people to get a shot to engage in commerce, fly on a plane, walk into a store, and, for Catholics, to receive the sacraments, is insane — and the COVID crowd is absolutely on the side of anti-Christ and anti-God.
Mask up, stay apart, isolate, get a shot — and then even after the shot — mask up, stay apart, isolate, and get another shot. Something's just not adding up. The very same forces that have lied through their teeth to us for decades — the ones successfully unmasked by Trump — are the very same ones pushing this fear narrative.
Trust is fundamental to any and every relationship, and it doesn't matter what the nature of the relationship is. This is true in the media world, like here at Church Militant. You trust us to bring you truth and accuracy, and we take that trust as a foundational and serious obligation. You give us money through a variety of ways to sustain the effort here, and we guard that trust zealously.
Every relationship is built on a certain degree of trust, whether you're buying groceries or getting married and everything in between. So when a trust is broken, depending on the intensity of the relationship, it can be devastating. And oftentimes that trust is never capable of being restored.
Such is the case now between the two temporarily coexisting worlds revealed by Trump in the White House. For example, the violation of trust that the U.S. hierarchy has exhibited these last many decades has probably reached the point of not being able to be restored. The same is true of cultural institutions and believers. What, precisely, have Catholic bishops or cultural leaders done to earn one modicum of your trust in the past half-century?
When it comes to living all this out, we need not pretend that this won't get worse for authentic believers. It will — in fact, it has to. "Comfortable Catholicism" has come to an end. Thanks to Donald Trump, that is now abundantly obvious. So thanks again, Donald. You did the forces of faith a great service. As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
