Focus: God uses trials not to destroy our faith, but to develop mature, surrendered, Kingdom people.

I. Trials develop our faith (James 1:2-3)
          Trials reveal what we are truly trusting in.
          Pressure exposes foundations.
          God often meets us in the fire, not around it.
          Can you say, “Even when I do not understand, I will trust the character of God.”
          The fiery furnace and Shadrach, Meshach, & Abednego (Daniel 3)

II. Trials produce maturity and dependence (James 1:4-5)
         God is more committed to our maturity than our comfort.
         Trials deepen dependence on God.
         Wisdom is seeing life through the rule and reign of Jesus.
         Perseverance is not formed in comfort, but hardship (Romans 5:3-5; 2          Corinthians 12:9-10)

III. Trials reveal surrendered faith (James 1:6-8)
         Trials expose divided loyalties.
         Faith learns to trust God even when circumstances are uncertain.
         Kingdom people anchor their lives fully in Christ.

IV. When trials come:
         Don’t interpret hardship as abandonment.
         Ask: “God, what are You producing in me?”
         Ask God daily for wisdom.
         Keep praying, obeying, and trusting.
         Anchor your life fully in Christ.

V. Kingdom people are not people who never face trials. They are people who              discover that even in the fire, Jesus is faithful.

Focus: Peace and contentment are not found in perfect
circumstances, but in the presence and sufficiency of Christ.
They are Kingdom fruit produced through trust and surrender.

I. Kingdom Peace is rooted in the presence of Christ (Philippians 4:4–7)
       “Rejoice in the Lord always…”
        Peace is rooted in Christ, not circumstances.
        Anxiety grows when we try to control what only God can carry.
        “The peace of God” guards our hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

II. Kingdom Peace flows from a Kingdom Mindset (Philippians 4:8–9)
        What you dwell on… disciples you.
        Peace grows where the mind is anchored in truth.
        The world disciples us into fear, striving, and comparison.
        Kingdom people say: “Because I have Christ… I already possess what
        matters most.”

III. Kingdom Contentment is learned through trusting Christ (Philippians 4:10–13)
        Contentment does not come naturally – it is learned.
        Paul’s peace was anchored in Christ, not his circumstances.
        Philippians 4:13 is not about achieving dreams but enduring all things
        through Christ’s strength.
        The example of Elizabeth Elliot
        Peace and contentment are Kingdom fruit.

Focus: True confidence before God is not built on what we achieve, but on what Christ has accomplished. In Philippians 3, Paul calls us to lay down self-reliance and find our righteousness in Jesus alone.

I. Where does your confidence come from? Effort? Morality? Success? Christ alone?
       Tim Keller: “The default mode of the human heart is self-salvation.”

II. Misplaced Confidence Will Always Fail (vv. 1–6)
       Paul warns against confidence in the flesh (human effort, achievement, morality).
       If anyone could trust a résumé—it was Paul.
       Yet even the best résumé cannot stand before God.
       Anything you build your identity on—other than Christ—can be taken from you.

III. Kingdom Confidence Is Found in Christ Alone (vv. 7–9)
       Paul counts all his achievements as loss compared to knowing Christ.
       True righteousness is not earned—it is received through faith.
       The Great Exchange: Jesus takes our sin; we receive His righteousness
       You don’t stand before God based on your performance, but on Christ’s perfection.

IV. Religion Cannot Replace Relationship (vv. 10–11)
       Paul’s goal: “That I may know Him…”
       Christianity is not about improving yourself – it’s about knowing Jesus.
       You can do religious things and still miss a real relationship with Him.
       The gospel doesn’t come to make you better – it comes to make you new.
       On Suffering: Charles Spurgeon: “I have learned to kiss the waves that have cast me upon the Rock of Ages.”

Focus: Because of what Jesus has already done for us, obedience is not
how we earn salvation—it’s how we reveal that God is at work within us.
As citizens of Heaven, we shine in a dark world when our surrendered
lives reflect His grace, truth, and joy.

I. Obedience is the outworking of what God has done in you (vv. 12–13)
       We don’t work for salvation—we work it out.
       Salvation is a gift of grace through Jesus (Romans 3:24; 2 Corinthians 5:21).
       God is already at work in you: Giving you new desires & empowering your
              obedience
       Not try harder… surrender deeper.

II. Obedience makes the Gospel visible in a crooked world (vv. 14–16)
       “Do everything without grumbling or arguing…”
       We shine when we live differently: In how we respond, how we speak, how we love
       We are not shaped by the spirit of the age, but by the reign of King Jesus.
       You don’t shine by arguing with darkness – you shine by being different.

III. Obedience leads to joy-filled sacrifice (vv. 17–18)
       Paul’s life was being “poured out…” yet he rejoiced.
       When life is about you → obedience feels like loss
       When life is about the Kingdom → obedience becomes joy
