For October, we explored some of the most gruesome and upsetting Biblical passages and stories, and trying to figure out what we can do with them. For this week, why did a prophet send bears to attack teenagers who made fun of him for being bald?

It is a very difficult time. How can people of faith find hope? How do we respond not just to the ethical headaches of our time, but to the problems that we, the church, have helped to create?

Who are we? Relationships, connections between human beings - that has always been what this faith is all about.

Even though we are committed to non-violence, we are still warriors. We are warriors in the face of injustice, we are warriors in the face of oppression, we are warriors in the face of the trauma of our time. Being a warrior isn’t as scary as it sounds.

How do we get young people into our churches, how do we welcome them, and then, how do we get young people to stay in our churches without compromising who we are?

As Unitarian Universalists, we have a commitment to our 7th Principle, "Respect for the interdependent web of all existence of which we are a part." This topic is too important to ignore. But, where do we start?

This is a sermon about environments – all kinds of them. Bob Crawford said, "If you’re here long enough, you get to the gold beneath the girt and then you fall in love with the grit itself." What does this have to do with Memphis, what people love about Memphis and what about the environment?
