Striving for rest sounds like a contradiction until we read Hebrews 4. Ps Marilyn Brett unpacks two rests, the rest of salvation we already received the moment we trusted Jesus, and the rest of submission we make every effort to hold onto. Unbelief is not doubting that God exists. It is believing the wrong thing about him.

Jesus stands at the door and knocks. Our Futures offering is our answer. It is our turn. Ps Ryan Germain reminds our church that the assignment has not changed, we are here to tell the world about Jesus, and our own personality and grit will run out long before the job is done. The power of the Holy Spirit has a purpose, and that purpose is witness. From Acts 1:8.

Some of us are toe deep with the Holy Spirit. Some are ready to go out the back. Ps Ryan Germain uses Acts 2 to invite our church one step deeper, whatever depth we came in at. What should be a wildfire in us can shrink down to a pilot light, so we fan it back into flame.

There is always a gap between what we can do and what God can do. Ps Matt Heins calls it the faith gap, and says our daily trust is what bridges it. God told Jeremiah to buy a field in a city about to fall to Babylon. Obedience that makes no sense is still obedience. From Jeremiah 32.

The church at Ephesus was working hard, standing firm and getting its doctrine right. Jesus still had something against them. Ps Mel Chandler brings Revelation 2 to our house with one thing at the centre of it: we have to keep our love for Jesus at the heart of everything we do. Not a rebuke. A warning sign in the ground.
