This Mother’s Day service at Church on the Rock was a beautiful reminder that motherhood comes in many seasons — young children, teenagers, adoption, widowhood, grandmotherhood, spiritual motherhood, and everything in between.

Instead of only talking about mothers, we heard directly from women in our church who shared honestly about the unseen sacrifices, the daily demands, the grief, the joy, the patience, and the grace of God in every season.

Through their stories, we were reminded that God sees the unseen, strengthens the weary, comforts the hurting, and gives mothers the wisdom to trust Him with their children. We also heard a powerful encouragement from Exodus 2 and Matthew 6:33 about releasing our children into the hands of God, trusting that He has a purpose for their lives.

What happens when the formula fails?

In Acts 19:11–20, we see a powerful contrast between true spiritual authority and empty spiritual imitation. Paul was not operating through magic, manipulation, or a method. God was working extraordinary miracles through a surrendered man. But when the sons of Sceva tried to use the name of Jesus without knowing Jesus, the formula failed.

This message, “When the Formula Fails,” is a call to move beyond performance Christianity, borrowed faith, and spiritual language without spiritual surrender. The name of Jesus is not a formula to manipulate outcomes. It is the authority of the risen Lord, and that authority is received through relationship, surrender, repentance, and faith.
