You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your

freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in

love. 14 The entire law is summed up in a single command:

devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by

Jesus left that part of the country and returned with his disciples to

Nazareth, his hometown.

The next Sabbath he began teaching in the synagogue, and many who

heard him were amazed. They asked, “Where did he get all this wisdom

and the power to perform such miracles?”

Then they scoffed, “He’s just a carpenter, the son of Mary and the brother

of James, Joseph, Judas, and Simon. And his sisters live right here among

us.” They were deeply offended and refused to believe in him.

Then Jesus told them, “A prophet is honored everywhere except in his own

hometown and among his relatives and his own family.”

James 1:6-7

Anyone who doubts is like a wave in the sea; blown up and down by the

wind…They should not think they will receive anything from the Lord.

John 11:1, 3–6

A man named Lazarus was sick. He lived in Bethany with his sisters, Mary and Martha… So the two sisters sent a message to Jesus telling him, “Lord, your dear friend is very sick.” But when Jesus heard about it he said, “Lazarus’s sickness will not end in death. No, it happened for the glory of God so that the Son of God will receive glory from this.” So although Jesus loved Martha, Mary, and Lazarus, he stayed where he was for the next two days.

Do not be afraid, for I have ransomed you. I have called you by

name; you are mine. When you go through deep waters, I will

be with you. When you go through rivers of difficulty, you will not

drown. When you walk through the fire of oppression, you will

not be burned up; the flames will not consume you. For I am the

Lord, your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Savior…you are

precious to me. You are honored, and I love you. Isaiah 43:1-4

The Lord was with Joseph and he prospered, and he lived in the

house of his Egyptian master. When his master saw that the Lord

was with him and that the Lord gave him success in everything he

did, Joseph found favor in his eyes and became his attendant.

Potiphar put him in charge of his household, and he entrusted to

his care everything he owned. Genesis 39:2-4
