From bouncing his ball in a poorly constructed cell, to making friends with an AI- whom I might add seems to be something entirely different from your standard Ship AI most of us are familiar with. Shortly after escaping the science vessel petunia, crashing on a planet and nearly getting trampled by a stampede; it would be safe to say 'Luck or Stroke of Genius' is at work.
