  • BLACK ADAM And Why Dwayne Johnson Has Made An Impact On The DCEU
The hierarchy of power has changed forever! On this episode of Cinema Royale, Dwayne Johnson’s Black Adam has finally arrived and we’ll be joined by Julian Lytle to discuss whether it lives up to the hype! With the film getting hammered by critics but embraced by audiences, we’ll talk about the split reaction and how much of it is justified and how much of it is a load of crap.

All of this and more, like how awesome Aldis Hodge is as Hawkman and why the JSA needs a movie now!

  • Talking The Totally Noncontroversial 'Don't Worry Darling' (Special Guest_ Karen Peterson)
On the latest episode of Cinema Royale, I get into a shouting match and dodge a loogie from Karen Peterson as we talk about Olivia Wilde’s totally controversy-free film, Don’t Worry Darling, with Florence Pugh, Chris Pine, and Harry Styles! Reviews have been mixed everywhere, so what are the chances they’re mixed between the two of us, as well? Probably pretty good.

All of this and why Don’t Worry Darling is being done a disservice from the insane amount of coverage of every little rumor that surfaces.

  • Talking THE WOMAN KING And Viola Davis' Chance At Oscars Gold (Special Guest Tim Gordon)
On the latest episode of Cinema Royale, I’m joined by Black Reel Awards founder Tim Gordon to talk about The Woman King. The story of the real-life African female fighting force of the Dahomey kingdom has been a long time coming, and Viola Davis shows her commitment not only with another potentially Oscar-worthy performance, but with a physical transformation we’ve never seen from her.

Plus, Tim talks about the movies he saw while at TIFF; we discuss our previous interview with The Woman King director Gina Prince-Bythewood, and much more because the two of can never shut up when together.

  • How Sensational Is 'She-Hulk_ Attorney At Law'?
It’s hard being a successful, confident, professional woman in the world. And you know what? It doesn’t get any easier in the MCU, even when you’re big, green, and have super-strength. Marvel had premiered the first episode of She-Hulk: Attorney at Law on Disney+, but on the latest episode of Cinema Royale I’ll be talking about the first four episodes! And there’s nobody I’d rather go down this legal eagle road with than Karen Peterson of the Citizen Dame podcast!

  • Talkin' DRAGON BALL SUPER: SUPER HERO And Piccolo's Awesomeness
It’s time to go Super Saiyan!!! Four years have passed since the last Dragon Ball movie, but finally, it’s back in theaters with the hotly-anticipated Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero! Me being a Dragon Ball casual fan, I had to recruit my buddy Julian Lytle who knows everything there is to know about Piccolo, Goku, Vegeta, and the rest of the powerhouse crew!

Will Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero be the film fans have waited so long for? Is this the moment when Krillin finally steps up and surpasses Goku as the most powerful? Eh, probably not on that last one. Krillin’s a boss, tho! So is Beerus. Just sayin’. Can I get a battle royale with Krillin, Beerus, Vegeta, and Hercule Satan? That’d be my jam.

  • I Finally Saw Jordan Peele's NOPE And...That's What All The Fuss Was About?
Finally! It took me some time after returning from Comic-Con to finally catch up with Jordan Peele’s latest, Nope! Weeks of listening to colleagues rave about Peele’s third $100M-earning thriller in a row, all while avoiding spoilers and think pieces explaining how his film is the greatest thing since Jaws; it’s been tough! But now that I’ve seen it, my reaction Nope is…That’s it? Am I missing something?

Helping me to feel that I’m not crazy or alone is the amazing Sharronda Williams of PayorWait.com. This isn’t a bash Jordan Peele session, but is Nope really the masterpiece some are claiming it to be?

  • Talking 'Prey' and 'Bullet Train' (Special Guest: Wilson Morales of BlackFilmandTV.com)
It’s like Hollywood said, let’s make this week all about Travis. With the release of Prey, my favorite action movie franchise, Predator, is back in the spotlight and getting its best reviews in years. Plus, the action comedy Bullet Train takes my chosen hitman genre to another level with Brad Pitt, Joey King, Zazie Beetz, Hiroyuki Sanada, and so much more. So these films were designed specifically for me, that much is clear, but does that mean they were any good?

Helping to talk about Prey and Bullet Train is Wilson Morales of BlackfilmandTV.com. What are the chances he feels the same way?

  • Breaking Down Marvel's Epic SDCC Hall H Panel, The Multiverse Saga, & More (128 kbps)
Marvel unloaded the big guns at their San Diego Comic-Con panel in Hall over the weekend. Over the course of an hour and some change they dropped so much news and footage that it was tough to keep up! Phases 4, 5, AND 6! Avengers: The Kang Dynasty! Avengers: Secret Wars! Daredevil: Born Again! Black Panther: Wakanda Forever! It’s all too much for one Punch Drunk Critic to handle alone.

I’m joined on the show this week by my partner in crime, John Nolan, to break down all of the biggest news spring from Marvel’s Hall H presentation and beyond, because we got some breaking news just before recording!

  • Why 'Thor_ Love And Thunder' Could Be A Polarizing Film For Marvel
The Odinson has returned! Three years after it was first announced at Comic-Con, Thor: Love and Thunder is finally here. And this time, Chris Hemsworth isn’t the only Thor in town, as Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster wields the hammer, too. On this episode of Cinema Royale, I’m joined by my brotha from anotha mutha, Joblo.com‘s Chris Bumbray to talk about Thor’s latest adventure and why it might be the most divisive Marvel movie yet.

All of this, plus we discuss the future of the Thor franchise, tease the post-credits scene featuring an actor we both really like, and also worry over the future of action movies on the big screen.

  • Talking Baz Luhrmann's 'Elvis' And How It's Like A Superhero Origin Story
Slip on your blue suede shoes, check in to the Heartbreak Hotel, and join Cinema Royale for a review of Baz Luhrmann’s diamond-studded Elvis biopic! Of course, this being a Luhrmann joint, it ain’t no ordinary rock music biopic, more like a superhero origin story with Austin Butler as the heroic Presley and Tom Hanks as the evil Col. Tom Parker! Joining me to talk about the film is fellow Luhrmann fan, Julian Lytle!

All of this, plus we pick the best Marvel hero for Baz Luhrmann to make a movie about, and discuss the director’s recut Australia as a limited series!

You get this and more, of course! You can subscribe to Cinema Royale wherever you get your podcasts, and be sure to do the same on Youtube! Follow the Punch Drunk Critics and Cinema Royale!
