We're back! Again! This episode was recorded before Christmas, which is why it's filled with festive lies about how we're going to record a Christmas episode. Instead, we didn't do that.
In this episode, we chat about one of Joel's favourites, Richard Linklater's Boyhood (2014). It's a coming of age movie like no other, and is representative of Linklater's ambitious temporal filmmaking. We also discuss some other movies we watched over the break, like the 'Before' Trilogy, The Green Knight (2021), The Power of the Dog (2021), The Worst Person in the World (2021), Gremlins (1984) and Peter Pan (1953).
We're so glad to be back, and we love you!
This week, we have Finn Griffin back on to talk about Paul and Leonard Schrader's union-based crime drama, which examines the lives of the working class in Detroit during that era. We discuss the on-set feuds and the insanity that is the Schrader brothers, and also somehow get onto talking about Squid Game and our favourite twist movies. We hope you enjoy, we love you!
Your best friend and shipmate is eaten by a glowing striped glowing shark, also you're an asshole, and also your adult son locates you and joins your crew, also a journalist comes on a voyage with you to write a story on you, also you're Bill Murray, what do you do? who cares. This movie is good and makes us happy. Love y'all.
This week, we use the fascinating and sombre Meek's Cutoff (2010) as a platform to talk Westerns! Specifically, we chat about the history of the anti-western and its place in Australia.
Also a correction: we mention an Australian Western that we wrongly call The Inferno - we mean The Furnace (2020). Inferno is a very different movie.
We love you!
This week, we have Finn Griffin back on for our FIRST EVER Cinemangs double screening! We went to Melbourne's illustrious Astor Theatre to see two of Steven Spielberg's classics, each of which features some funny animals. Boy, Steve really loves those animals. Also, John Williams did the music for both of these, and he's great.
We love you!
Hey nerds, it's time to get down and dirty with these elves and goblins in this week's episode, which is on the first installment in the legendary LotR franchise! We have Lauren, who is not even close to a fan of this shit, on to chat about what she thinks of this long-ass movie. We love you!
This week, it's Michel Gondry and Charlie Kaufman's strange and wonderful Eternal Sunshine (2004). We marvel at the film's strange structure for one of the romance genre and talk about how Jim Carrey's pretty great.
We love you!
HE'S GOING OVER THAT CLIFF!
