Cinemavino episodes

  • Raging Scorsese
artin Scorsese has a new film, The Irishman, debuting this month to theaters and Netflix.  The legendary director has also made some unflattering comments about the Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Are these statements legitimate concerns about the effect of blockbuster cinema on art house filmmaking, or the grouchy rants of a curmudgeon?  As one of Cinemavino’s favorite directors, how do such complaints affect the legacy of Martin Scorsese?
For this episode of Cinemavino, we bring in a special guest, Daniel Gimlin, to discuss Scorsese’s Marvel comments, and talk about The Irishman.  We also drink The Bull, a delicious, fruit-forward red wine.
Thanks to Daniel for all his great insights, and we hope you enjoy this week’s Cinemavino!  (Also, despite Travis’s comments, we loved having Sean Jordan last week!  Don’t ever let Trav’s sarcasm fool you.)

  • 50. Squad Goals
For this week’s Cinemavino, we go back to a Halloween cult classic:  Monster Squad.  It has all the monsters, all the cheesy one-liners, and more than a few slurs that serve as a reminder of its time.  This is a very special episode, because we’re bringing in a friend!  Sean Jordan, an expert on horror movies, stops by for a chat about this movie, and to share his watchlist for Halloween!  If you’re a fan of the genre, this one is a must-listen.
We paired this discussion with In Sheep’s Clothing, a Washington Cabernet from the Columbia Valley.  To learn a little more, click here.  It’s a great wine, and the badass label doesn’t hurt, either.
Also, we supplemented this with Imagery Pinot Noir–courtesy of our good buddy Kevin–and Azul y Garanza, a nice Spanish Tempranillo that comes in a handy liter size!
So, join the Squad for a little Cinemavino!

When you do a podcast about drinking wine and watching movies, things are bound to fly off the rails from time to time.  The boys and I went a champagne tasting right before this episode was recorded, and we got a little looped as a result.  And when I say looped, I mean Travis Budd takes it to the next level.  He is slurring, jabbering wine-hammered.  He fumbles over a few words early on, and Taylor and I can barely keep from laughing for the entire rest of the episode.
This time around, we screen Plan Nine from Outer Space and drink some delicious Bordeaux.  For my upcoming ebook, I’m pairing wine and movies, so this heavy red will match with Children of Men.

    Plan 9 From Outer Space

Now, kick back and enjoy one of the goofier episodes of Cinemavino!

Everyone’s talking about El Camino, the long-awaited epilogue to the landmark series Breaking Bad.  It’s provoking a variety of opinions:  Many loved it, while others were frustrated.  Our thoughts cover that spectrum.  For this episode, we talk El Camino, and drink some delicious bubbly from New Mexico.
