HOT TAKE! Whitetails can sense the moon?! Adam Hays has a unique take on the moon and it just may change how you think about the moon and deer hunting. Yes, we know, there have been a lot of studies done about whitetails and the moon and the results suggest that the moon has no effect on deer. With that being said, as we discussed the topic with Adam, it is hard to argue with the way he describes the moon and its relation to whitetails. I mean, he does have a wall of giant deer to prove what he is saying.
Is the moon the main contributing factor to a whitetail's day time movements, no. But it is one factor, and when it is added in with other factors like wind and weather, it sure does make sense.
NOT ONLY THAT, but we talked with Adam about stacking the deck in your favor and splitting hairs to kill giant whitetails. You almost have to hunt the wrong wind for you in order to kill a giant sometimes?! So no more, we are listening intently!
You don't want to miss this one! This is some great info from a man who has been hunting for 45 years and knocking down giants all along.
Many of you know of Midwest Whitetail, which means you likely know who Josh Sparks is. Josh came up through the industry working with people like the Drury's and hunting himself on public and permission based properties. Thus, he has seen it all and he is proof you can consistently get on big deer without owning a bunch of land! The key is how do you find this ground to hunt? How do you keep it once you have? How do you scout these places efficiently when you live an hour or more away and can't be there every day to scout and keep an eye on deer? Well, we dive into all of this and much more with Josh! If you love hunting big deer and don't own land, then this is one you don't want to miss!
Phillip has been in the outdoor space for decades, and he has been filming that entire time. He has had a life time of experiences and has the video to back it up. What his big thing with deer hunting is though is calling, hunting on the ground, and using decoys. We sit down with Phillip to dive into some of the details on how to be successful in these avenues of deer hunting, and it is enlightening!
Aaron Warbritton, of The Hunting Public, is no stranger to hunting public ground and how to succeed tactically on land that is pressured by many hunters. But one thing that is often over looked by most hunters, whether on private or public ground, is having the proper mental state of mind. With Aaron, we dive into how this can be the key to success in the woods, plus many more topics, and of course a lot of those are related to public ground hunting.

Last time we had Mark Newell on, we discussed more about habitat management than food plots, so we decided to have him back on to deep dive into food plots. Well, at least start the deep dive. On this episode, we discussed a lot about fall food plots and about planning/planting for next spring. We covered everything from methods using hand tools all the way to tractors, and what to plant and why. There is A LOT of information in this one.
And while we are at it, for all of your fall planting seeds, visit our friends over at Tecomate and use code TECOMATE10 for 10% of your next order!
Lee Lakosky could probably talk for year's about whitetail deer and we would learn something from him every day. But, as we sit down with Lee this time, we wanted to do the best we could on a deep dive for his favorite time of year to hunt and how he does it. Those first two weeks of season in any state can be magical and we spent some time discussing that, but we also talked a bit about the rut, calling to deer, and we of course had additional random questions we sprinkled in.
Lee Lakosky is no stranger to giant whitetails and all giant big game animals for that matter. But now, his whitetail management mentality is spilling over into his other big game hunts, something he enjoys the challenge of. As we sit down with Lee, we talk about his 460" Montana elk that he let live several years before hunting him, his whitetail mindset that is driving him in his hunting adventures, and of course, loads of information about hunting and growing giant whitetails.
Look, we all get excited about new gear and bows, but how much of the small details really matter for the average whitetail hunter? Even if it doesn't matter to you, having the knowledge of what to worry about and what not to worry about could help you save time. With that being said, we talked with our friend Travis Spivey about different things you can tinker with to help improve speed, accuracy and more. On top of that, we did walk throughs on things like choosing new arrows and more.
