For the 4th episode of the CIO podcast hosted by Healthcare IT Today, we’re sitting down with R. Hal Baker, MD, Senior Vice President, Chief Digital and Chief Information Officer at WellSpan Health. In this episode we take a little different approach from previous episodes as we talk with Dr. Baker about a very specific technology: ambient clinical voice and his experience with the Nuance DAX solution.
This is a particularly interesting episode because Dr. Baker is the CIO of his organization, but also a practicing doctor that is using the ambient clinical voice technology himself as he sees patients. This allows him to provide both the physician perspective on ambient clinical voice along with his perspective as CIO.
As fate would have it, the news also dropped today that Microsoft will acquire Nuance and the technology that’s talked about in this episode. I’m not sure this will change the trajectory of the product, but could actually provide Nuance with added resources to continue developing the backend AI needed to make ambient clinical voice even better.
Here’s a look at the questions and topics we discuss on this episode:
Describe the documentation burden that clinicians face and how that’s impacting them. What’s been your experience with ambient clinical intelligence and the Nuance DAX product? How much have you rolled it out? How well has it been adopted? What’s the workflow look like for clinicians? Future plans? How has this impacted patients? and Doctors?Who championed DAX and how did you approach getting buy-in for it in your organization?Where do you see ambient clinical intelligence heading in the future? As CIO, what have you done to adapt your role amidst COVID-19? How have implementations like DAX been impacted? What suggestions would you have for CIOs that are having a hard time pushing forward innovative solutions in their organizations? Now, without further ado, we’re excited to share with you the next episode of the CIO Podcast by Healthcare IT Today.
