Season: Lent - What We Need to Resist
Speaker: Ben White
Location: 3800 Marlton Pike
About Season: Our Lenten journey of solidarity with Jesus’ sufferings is set while he fasted in the wilderness for 40 days. As we take a look at a piece of that story each week, we’ll consider what we need to resist—external forces as well as internal dilemmas. As we walk with Jesus in his sufferings, we can be more conscious of him walking with us through ours.
About Talk: On top of the mountain, Satan tempts Jesus, the once internally displaced AND refugee child, with a way to be a king that is very in line with all the kings who had gone before. The “glory” of the kingdoms of the world is what Jesus rejects. At the core of worldly kingdoms is violence. Jesus shows us another way that we can apply to our resistance to our worldly kings and their violence and in our relationships, where if we pay attention we will see we are a lot like the kingdoms of the world—lacking in imaginative ways to respond differently when our “borders” are transgressed.
